Default Little golden book quilts - sort of from kits!

In this thread I was listing things I've learned from buying kits and precuts over the years.
    http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...y-t209432.html

I showed a picture of a layer cake I'd purchased just for the Little Golden Book themed fabric and how awful I thought the coordinating fabrics were.

In spite of that I think these came out pretty cute. They are for a mom who collects Little Golden Books and is expecting twins. They are each about 42" square.

In the thread listed above Reneaunoel suggested a disappearing nine patch to use the ugly fabrics. What an awesome idea! I just did a 4-patch in the puppy one, but used her DNP idea for the kitten and - I'm happy! One picture shows the same block as a regular nine patch. You got a close up of the outer border cause I just loved this happy fabric!

Of the 20 10"X10" squares that were supposed to be in each set I used just 5 in one and 6 in the other.

Now they are on hold as I wait to applique the babies' names in the top border..

Both quilts turned out beautiful! Glad you were able to solve the fabric problem with suggestions from this board. Two babies will have quilts to carry around for many years.
