Have you considered using homespuns? Many LQS have a good variety of them and they give a wonderful look in a manly quilt.

I like the golden sashing. But I would suggest that you pull out the blues, greens and deeper browns. I have found wonderful batiks at my LQS that have foliage in them, and smaller prints. Even though some disagree I think it would look wonderful and your dad will be so proud of his quilt. It appears that the one you have in this picture ranges in colors and I see some blue in it - it kind of reminds me of camouflage. Don't hunters wear that? Maybe they don't but it makes me think of hunters or men in general

i would go with a different batik in a blue or green also. I would also get rid of the yellow boarder and go with something with more contrast maybe a darker brown from the dock or maybe a black like the dog. I think that the yellow might be blending or making the fabric not look as clean as it could. but that is just me. hope this helps

I agree. After my first reply I began thinking about that. I would go with warm dark brown from the dock. Then when you're putting on your finishing border maybe use that gold as a border.

I love all the fabric but I have yet to make my first quilt so I dont have advice to anything. I think the bitak looks like it goes o.k. with it. ;-)
