I really want a pieced border for this but I don't have time!! :( Gotta get it finished and in the mail.

I drafted this compass on my autocad program. It took twice as long to draft as it did to cut and piece! LOL - the compass is 36" in diameter. I have it all pieced and pinned to the background and hope to get it appliqued tonight.

THe background is a warmer beige than it appears in the photo, and the green is more olive.

This is beautiful! I admire your skills. It would be a great one to use a pointed pieced border, but time dictates what we do. Lucky person who receives this one. Sara

Cathe, I love your Mariner's Compass. It's wonderful.

Now, I have to tell you how I've been playing with your pic.
Center the picture in the middle of the screen. Then scroll up and down on it at various speeds and watch the animation. Too much fun here!

Bet you didn't know how much entertainment you were providing!

I have to go cook dinner now. No more fun!

LOL - I use sewing-line templates to draw the seam lines on the back of each fabric piece and assemble it in a style similar to what they use in the Fons and Porter book: Quilters Complete Guide.

You can see in the picture that after I have sewn it into a big circular quilt top, I still have to applique it onto a background square. I use the iron to crease the square into crosswise and diagonal quarters and pin the circle to that, aligning the longest points to the creases. When I am done with the applique, I will press out those creases.
