I am so glad you posted this! I'm doing one of the the Carol Doak paper pieced stars that has a Mariner's compass (the Kentucky one)and I've reached a point where I need to be considering how to quilt it and I was truly at a loss. While I don't think I can do such a lovely job at least you've given an idea!!
