Thanks for the links.

That's a good deal on the fabrics - do you know what the quality is like? That would be my only fear...it's such a massive undertaking, I'd hate to have fabrics that aren't "worthy" being used.

Well, I can only say right now that it is supposed to be quilt shop quality from Farmhouse Fabrics.

http://farmhousefabricsshop.com/aboutus.htm

I found a wholesale place online that sells Kona Cotton by 15 yd increments only for $3.79 per yd.

Be careful on those colors. I own ten yards of the merigue, which is a very nice yellow, very light, but it doesn't look like my computer is interpreting merigue ... my computer is showing it leaning toward tan ... that is not what it looks like in real time. The quality is very good/substantial.

The meringue on the fabric direct site is closer to reality ... the banana however .... is so not that gold ... it is even a lighter yellow than the meringue ... just to let you know how accurate/inaccurate the colors may be. You are doing some good searching, Pam. I know everyone appreciates it. Even if you are taking me places I shouldn't be going! LOL

I ordered the Kona in Ivory. After looking at all the creams and seeing the yellowish tones I decided on the Ivory.

I browse fabric shops online quite a lot. Just love to look sometimes and it can spark ideas (and damage my pocketbook  )

Klue, you mentioned how closeup you can see the original in the software... where would that be? I'd like to see the original after reading other posts about how some disagree with Brenda's drafting of the blocks. In the software it says that she originally said that 5 yards were needed for the background which was WAY off and it makes me wonder how knowledgeable she was at the time of block construction.

pam

the fabric looks great!

if you're gonna wash the smaller pieces you might think about putting them into a pillowcase and tying a knot.

i found this helps to keep them from fraying.

i've washed 2.5 inch strips this way and they came out great.

i'm not impressed by brenda at all. i checked the book out from the library and knew i was never going to buy the book or make my Jane the way she suggested.

first off, she's never even made an entire Jane so how in the world does she know what needs to be done.

i plan on drafting the blocks however i feel like it - thats why i wanted the software so i can redesign very easily when needed.

to see a close up of the original in the software do the following once you open the program.......

1. click on Dear Jane Home on the left side
2. click on The Blocks
3. click on Block Tips
4. click on the blue text thats says "click here to view an enlarged image of the quilt"

if you happen to get the Hancock of Paducah catalog you can look up the kona cotton colors in the back. they do a pretty good job of staying true to the actual color.

i've been successful doing it this way but i've only purchased about 6 colors this way and thats not a good measure when they make over 180 colors.
