Memory Quilt for my Lifetime Valentine

    Greetings,

This quilt was made for my son who crossed over almost 6 years ago (Feb. 21st is his angel date). My son was born on Valentine's Day, 1985. He had celebrated his 24th birthday in 2009, an exact week later he crossed over after an auto accident. He left behind a 5 year old daughter at the time. She's now 12. This quilt is made up of his basketball uniforms, some hair ties he bought her when she was little, some of her t-shirts, and a partial bandana that belonged to my grandfather. My good friend helped me accomplish this bittersweet labor of love. My son was a tissue donor. As a result, I will be making a square in his honor for the memorial quilts for the organ donor organization. I will be very proud to see that hanging up as well as it being archived in their website.
    Thanks for looking.
    Monique

It is one of the hardest things in life for a parent to loose a child, no matter how old the child is. Blessing to you and your family.

There is nothing harder then to survive the loss of a child. You never expect them to crossover first. Your son gave a gift of life to someone. His life will continue in a small way because of this gift. You have created a wonderful memorial to your son. You have honored him in thought and deed. What a unique quilt. I am so sorry for your loss.

You made a beautiful quilt for your son's daughter to enjoy and continue to feel the love of her daddy. I admire your ability to mix his uniforms with her t-shirts to make a beautiful quilt. And the bonus of the bandana is very special. We are not supposed to outlive our children and I am sorry for your loss. I think the donated squares will be beautiful also.

Thanks so much to all for looking and your heartfelt comments. About 3 years ago I had some wonderful donations from some ladies from the quilting board send me various heart themed fabrics. I made a quilt for my granddaughter in honor of my son for her9th birthday. This board is amazing and so inspirational on so many levels. I've seen so many come together for other members in difficult times. I am so blessed to be a part of this amazing forum.

Thanks again for all the kind sentiments. Bless you all!

This quilt will surely be cherished by your DGD. Like Grace Creates said, I too admire your ability to find the sweet in this bittersweet.
