More "Fun with FMQ"

That is simply stunning! Way beyond my skills! I am set to quilt a fireplace opening cover quilt but have a question. Do you use bobbin thread in the colour of your backing for all stitches or do you use the same colours you used on your fmq (thus various colours)? I haven't noticed the backs of most quilts so I don't know what most quilters do.

Ditto-I am so envious. Am very good at piecing but would love to be able to do something besides SID. Not a very patient person and want instant gratification. Also get discouraged very easily with FMQ. Maybe someday. You are doing great work. Would love to see a full quilt that you free motion. It would be lovely I'm sure.

On the backing piece, I will make four or five buttonholes along the top edge - maybe down an inch from the top edge or so (haven't started the back piece yet so just guessing). Then I will do some stitching around those buttonholes through the quilt to form pockets to hold small magnets from the Lee Valley store as they have small, strong magnets. I'll drop the magnets in these pockets - the fireplace screen is metal so this should hold the quilt up. I'll put some more magnets at the bottom and one on each side - same thing with pockets.
