I was ask about the quilt in my avatar. I think I may have posted it before...but not sure. So here is the story. My best friend & I saved selvages forever...then decided to get together and do something with them. I just decided to do a string quilt, but concentrate on color blocks and this is what I came up with. No pattern. Just started everything on a 8 1/2 inch block, then for the borders I used 4 1/2 & 2 1/2 inch by 8 1/2 strips(that is unfinished sizes) Had a lot of fun sorting through all our selvages to sort by color....and I still have enough to do several more quilts....guess I better get busy!!!

I love that. How wide are your salvages? A friend is saving salvages to do something so I'm going to send her your pictures. Its very creative. Thanks for sharing

A couple of inches is ideal,...but some of ours were barely wide enough to use. We didn't really know to cut a little extra off with the selvage when we first started saving, but we do now..LOL! I would say mostly about 1 1/2 inches!

I remember when you first posted this quilt. I loved it then and still love it. I seem to recall you saying some wine was involved in the process as well! ;)

    It's beautiful!!

I read a selvageblog.com and she makes everything from selvages and I got so intrigued that I started saving mine about a year ago. I even emailed her and told her how much I loved her projects and she sent me a bag of selvages to add to my own :) I'm still saving them. Hope I have enough someday to make a similar quilt like yours.

I've been watching these threads about selvages for awhile/

Curiosity got the cat ... so I'll ask!

Do you save the whole selvage off of all your fabrics?
Or just the section where the info and colour dots are?
And would you save all those for the full length?
    Or just one?

As I said ... curiosity got the cat ... and now you have me thinking!

Ohhhhhh! My goodness. That is one awesome quilt! And, a perfect example of what you can do with all those little selvages and a lot of creativity.

    Well done!
