I have had a couple of people ask to see a better view of my avatar, so here goes.

It is done in raw edge reverse applique. I did the face with colored pencil. I was VERY unhappy with the way the silver in the moon came out, it looks like ironing board cover fabric. Worked out fine for my daughter though, since I gave it to her.

I did try this a little earlier, if I messed up somehow, please disreguard.

The layers of this were as follows: Backing, batting, green/blue, purple/blue, peacock spotty piece, flesh, then black. That is right 8 layers thoughout the whole quilt.

The backing was marked with the design. I sewed on all of the marked lines, flipped it to the front, and started carefully cutting with tiny, sharp scissors, to that layer that I wanted to show in that spot.

In traditional reverse applique, you would have turned the raw edges under and hand stitched in place.

See, easy peasy. Everything I do is easy! I just hope it looks hard, but nothing to it!

This is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing such a fantastic piece. There are a lot of avatars on here that I would love to see a close up of. They are hard to see in such tiny pictures. Who would have thought there was so much detail in your quilt till we got to see a close up. It looks invovled, but now we can really appreciate it. I am glad someone asked you to post a closer picture. Wow!

Thanks for the compliments. I am all in favor of buying the most beautiful fabrics you can find and letting THEM do all of the hard work.

It is pretty! I haven't done raw edge reverse applique - I know no (?) edges are turned under, but could you explain in a nutshell the process?? Thanks! Ironing board fabric?? No, I don't THINK so! :-)
