I'm so glad you all like my quilts. These are only my 5th and 6th bed-sized quilts. (I've made three wall-hangings too, but that is the extent of my quilting life.) I chose the fabrics from several different sources. I had purchased the butterfly fabric at Joann with nothing in particular in mind. Someone else on this forum posted a beautiful quilt in this pattern, and I loved it so much that I decided to make it for my daughter-in-law. I purchased the remainder of the fabrics at two different LQS's. The idea of making one for my son in a different color came later. I just thought it would be fun for them to have two such different-looking quilts in the same pattern. My daughter-in-law likes cool colors, but I was worried about this ending up looking like a baby quilt, so I focused on the greens, purples, and blues more than the pinks. (And I learned later that she doesn't like pink, so it worked out!)
This was the first time I chose fabrics after reading about how to put colors and patterns together. I made a quilt for their wedding, but I wasn't completely happy with the fabrics I chose once it was all put together. It just seemed a tad to "busy" for my taste. So I read a book about color and that was really helpful. I'm so glad you like my choices. I value your collective opinions!
