I started this quilt when I was 19!! Finished it when I was 35!!

Its completely hand pieced over paper and hand quilted!

It would not have taken me that long but it was in a bag for years - sometimes 4 or 5 years before I worked on it and then I would blast at it.....

I am now making another one for my Best Friend - she had been married for 10 years when I finished this one and we joked that if I started right away I should just mange to get it done for her Silver Wedding!!! I'm on target - and have another 9 years!!!

That is beautiful. I love the colors.

What do you mean "hand pieced over paper"? It almost looks like a yo-yo.

Love it! Excellent work. Is your current project like this one too? I have so much respect for anyone who tackles this type of quilt. Perhaps its my inexperience, but this just looks so hard.

This is a fantastic quilt with a story that makes it an heirloom already! O.K., I know that the official dating of a quilt is when its finished, but the times you took it out and worked on it make it special to you. It would be nice to write that all down now and keep it with the quilt.

Thats right - it is paper pieced, granmothers flower garden (ish) true Grandmothers Flower garden has paths between the 'rossettes' (I believe!!) the next one I am working on is a true GFG!

So - I tack (baste) the fabric shapes over an exact hexagon shaped piece of paper then when I have enough for a 'rossette' I stich them together by tiny oversewing stitches on each seam. I find it very relaxing - great for taking with me on journeys and to waiting rooms etc....

I made my frst quilt top using this technique when I was 9!!! This one took me from age 18 - to 35 the next one will take me form about 35 to maybe 45.......

I made dozens of cushions too - over the years and a few baby cot quilts!!

Thanks everyone!! This quilt will always be special to me - it has some special fabrics in it - one, the very dark green that REALLY shouldn't be there! Was given to me by a lady of 80 (she is 80 now!) it was in her Tennis skirt that she used to wear in the 1940's!! and others are from clothes my Mother made me as a child - others given to me by friends some now gone before us. I enjoyed working out the corners with my Husabnd not long after we met - he was hooked by then!!

    Many Many Memories.

Unfortunately - It has really suffered on the bed for the last 6 years and is rather tatty already!! I am working on a new quilt (picture as soon as I have it quilted) which is to replace it and I will pension it off somewhere safe then...

I just learned this techneque at our Guild last month. It is fun and I believe the thing that actually takes the longest is cutting out all those little hexagones. Great job! I love your quilt...

Beautiful does not say enough about your quilt. A real treasure in this quilt. I would never have the patience to even start one. Keep up the great work.
