I know it was a very popular class at the quilt shop I took the class. I think they had offered the class for several years when I took it. I remember the instructor said people always signed up no matter how many times it was offered. It is a fun quilt and you can add personalization. I put my dogs and cat, husband and me, and my girls. Thanks for sharing your pictures. It is great that he wanted to have his mother's quilt finished.
Do you have any information on the name of the design? Or the year it was published/person who designed it, etc? I know my friend would love to know the history and maybe figure out what year his mother made the squares.
