I really like the heavier home fabrics or really great woolens, or homespuns that have a good hand to them. (Sturdy but not stiff) I have even used beautiful knits that I stablized on the back side with interfacing and cut out like normal fabric. They all stand up to the wear and tear of a purse. I think the reason my purses come out looking so non-homemade is the fabrics are the best quality I can get my hands on.

Some of the print patterned corduroy is very nice to work with and durable for anyone just starting out making purses, they look great and are a good choice. I also reccomend buying the best hardware (Like the handles on this one), it makes it a little more special. Depending on the style of the purse, use things that make them look original to that style. I have used antique buckles and buttons, mod styled things from the seventies for the hippie ones. Just amything that you think would be just perfect for your design. It is fun to go looking for just the right thing.

I try to slow way down and top stitch with the right needle and thread. It is addicting, like quilting, really.

Then there are the aprons. They are such a kick to make too. But, that is another adventure, so fun!

Love your purse and fabric and the zipper - ;ove pockets on the outside, so I never have to open a purse!

Thanks Red for the fabric info. The is a great discount fab store near me that specializes in the heavier weight fabrics. Just what I needed...a reason to shop there more often!!
