Melissa,
That is a beautiful quilt with lots of family history. Good Job!
What I do if I am going to write on a quilt square is to iron freezer paper to the back just long enough to write what I am going to write. I also do this when doing labels cause I can make lines on the freezer paper so that the writing is straight. It shows thru well.

Oh, Melissa-what a beautiful quilt. I love that you used old family fabric and put names of family members on the quilt. You have a real heirloom treasure. Now that you have gotten it out of the closet are you planning on quilting it soon? :lol:
