When in doubt, as as you can see from the suggestions given, always frame your quilt - pictures (art work) is always framed, and our pictures sewn in fabric are artwork that need to be framed. Good rule of thumb. Go for al dark half square trianges. will be drop dead beautiful.

I think an inner border the width of your small blocks and the dark outer border would look great! Your quilt is beautiful. Working without a pattern allows you to expand your skill base a lot faster. We learn by doing and you are doing   :D

Good job. Not sure how I would make it larger but I do like
the border.

It is very very pretty. I'd just go with a border to frame it. it is so balanced in the design right now.

I think a dark blue border all the way around would frame this nicely. Seriously, only your 3rd quilt?! You're doing an awesome job!!! Don't give up!

I like the light blue, follow by the dark blue border. It's a beautiful quilt, with lovely colors!

Toss out your lightest darks and don't use them in the border.
It's a really subtle effect, but it works.
No lights in the border.

If you absolutely can't muster up any enthusiasm for one more HST block, then a border of your darkest blue all around.
The dark will make all the lights in the center sparkle.
Please don't give up on this beauty!

I agree with MTS! The lights in the center will sparkle with a dark border.

Before adding a border(s), take photos of all the possibilities and compare them side by side.

You did very very well, pattern or not! I think it would be perfect with a dark 4.5" border. This would let the lighted sections sparkle even more. Beautiful work!
