The title I have for this pattern is...Mountain Star. It is shown in black and white drawing in the Stearns & Foster Catalogue of Quilt Pattern designs and Needle Craft Supplies. It is in a little yellow book put out by Mountain Mist about 35 yrs. ago. It says inside the cover patterns can be purchased from Creative Quilting Center
    The Stearns & Foster Co.

Keep in mind that was a loooong time ago. The drawing is on page 8 and the description reads: The Mountain Star design in itself is unusual and fascinating, but its greatest charm lies in its blending colors. The entire star design as well as the interblock border is appliqued on.

Thanks so much for the information! I wonder if the date that she stated was correct and the quilt pattern has been around for 75+ years and was republished 35 years ago....or if she has incorrect info on the age and maker of the quilt. Hard to say, as most people don't sign and date their quilts....so it's left up to the family to keep track of who made what and when.

Either way - it's a beautiful quilt and I'd love to date mine 2011!

It looks like a cross between a Mariner's Compass and a Star pattern. I would opt for the star because of the rays, so suggest looking for early star patterns such as Bethlehem Star that this one could be a variation of.Will post if I find same.

Maybe it's an original design of the person who made it. Whatever, it is beautiful and striking
