Thank you all so much. The patchwork edition is suppose to be a quilting machine sotime will tell what it will do.I just have to play around with it a bit.It makes me feel better knowing that everyone likes the Bernina and the featherweights and the Janomes. I love them all. But so far,my featherweight is my favorite and If I had to give them all up,my featherweight would be the last to go.

I love my Bernina QE440. The only complaint I have is the needle threader. It's quicker for me to do it myself. Other than that it's an awesome machine. I learned as I went. It sews like a dream and the stitch regulator is the cats meow. You will have tons of fun and congratulations on your new toy.

When did Bernina start making the knee lift an optional (and extra cost) feature? Is it extra on all Bernina machines?

I have a 1260 that I bought many years ago and I love it more every day. I have quite a few stitches but only use 1 or 2 since pretty much all I do is piece on it. But it is a workhorse - always ready to sew perfectly no matter what I am sewing or how long it have been neglected. One of my favorite features is the knee lift. I can't sew on a machine without it anymore. I just habitually try to lift the presser foot with my knee.

Congratulations! Berninas are wonderful and reliable machines. I still use my Bernina 830 Record that has been mine for 40 years without a single problem. Now I use my Bernina 440QE, and it has been great. Enjoy your new toy.

Funny you say that about the needle threader, I can't be bothered with mine either, it is faster to thread it myself.
