They are part of the design - each of the cubes is actually the same hexagon as the other blocks - it amazed me to see how the choice and placement of the colors produced the cube effect.

Your original blooks may be somewhat understated compared to some OBWs, but I LOVE how they turned out!!!!

The quilt looks very pretty both with the cubes and just looking at a section without them. Maybe a solid border would have focused on the center more and reduced some of the business.

Luv the blocks...I think that it saved the quilt. Some fabrics just do not lend themselves to OBW. I found that out using a paisley print for a four patch posy. I turned out really bad.

Uh-oh...I chose the exact same fabric for my OBW. The good news is that I LOVE the way your quilt turned out (even without the cubes) and I can't wait to start. I think I will leave the cubes out of mine...mostly because I haven't the first clue how to make them....LOL!
