Default Ode to Gee's Bend

hi

in an effort to clear the ufo atmosphere, i finally got this one all stitched up.

it is based on a mccall's pattern, the first time i have ever used a commercial quilting pattern. i wanted to do something in the style of the gee's bend quilts (which i love love love) but i didn't quite have the courage to set out on my own. the fabrics were a gift from an internet friend whose mom was a long time (and incredibly gifted) quilter.

seemed like a good match - the red, white and blue - to honour a rich american quilting tradition. the label tries to represent the infinite giving and receiving we engage in when we quilt, and the gratitude i feel for all the quilters that have gone before me.

this one is a little strange in that it looks SO SO SO much more lovely all crumpled on a bed than hanging on the line.

hope your fall is bringing you project completions too. it really does feel wonderful to sleep under them!

thanks for looking!

aileen

it has a red flannel back with a rocket ship printed panel, but the photo is 3.5 mb and i can't figure out why or how to make it smaller

the quilting is simple waves with breaks of star clusters. my free motion quilting isn't winning any ribbons any time soon, but i'm getting there. not there enough to post close ups though!

enough about me and mine! thanks again!

Great quilt! I see big red H's and I think a Harvester tractor buff would love it too.
