    Default Old Time Quilts

Originally called “The Hourglass Quilt ” from the 1950’s. My Mother made one for my big sister. It was multiple floral patterns that was set between 4 yellow plain blocks. Made for a twin bed. My sister had the quilt for over 20 years. This photo was downloaded from the web. It gave no details about the quilter or the year it was made. I found an entire quilt cut from various fabrics. It is now in my UFO collection box. I wish to thank the people who uploaded this photo and to state that I have no intention of claiming this quilt as one of mine. I only posted it to show an original photo of the pattern.

This quilt is also called the axe head; the double axe head; and lately I have heard it called the apple core.

Agree with others .... this is the double axehead or apple core block/quilt.
    whereas
an hour glass quilt, is made of QSTs.

Which one do you know as Broken Dishes, the hourglass or the apple core?

I believe that the Apple Core style quilt is much older than the 50's My grandmother had one and she was born in 1888, if I remember correctly.

I think both the apple core and broken dishes were around way before the 50's.
