I wanted to make my18 month old grandson a doll. And thought this would be a good one to do. I did modify the pattern a little, just the face. The pattern is McCalls, and they said to just glue on felt eyes and nose. I thought that looked cheap and after all the work it took to make the rest I did not want that. There are 85 yo-yo's in him, and they took forever. I told my husband not to volunteer me to make one for anyone else, unless they want to pay about 300 bucks. You were also supposed to use nearly a yard of five different fabrics, but I had five yards of lightweight desert camo, so I used that. Now for the real test on the 26th, when Liam opens the present. Will he like it?

He has such a sweet face, who wouldn't like him. Best use for yoyo's I've seen! What did you "string" them on?

He's very cute. Just consider it "labor", birthing a new gift.

The yo-yo's are stung on 3/4 inch elastic. So he is springy as well and cuddly. Who would think yo-yo would be snuggley, but they are.

If I have time, I want to make another for my little grand daughter. She is only six months so a smaller version I think. I also think I will use a bunny head or maybe a bear instead. Now that I know the construction, it could be anything.

How could he NOT love it? It is absolutely adorable. And a bunny face for the little one would be perfect.

Oops, I messed up, it is not McCalls, it is Simplicity 2441. I made the face, legs, hands and tail out of a suede looking type fabric. But not a stretchy fabric. The pattern called for just solid cotton. For the eyes I had half ball solid black buttons, and I wanted them to be sunken a bit. I am just now noticing they are uneven, but I am not fixing them, That will teach me for working on him too late last night. Anyway, you stuff his head from the back, so I stuffed it loosely and then used a longer needle to go in from the back and catch the button shank. To keep it for pulling through I cut out four pieces of the suede fabric in circles and caught those on my way back. I did this several times to secure it. Then I finished stuffing his head. When he was all done I decided his eyes needed to be sucked down a bit more so out came the super long doll needle and hid the knots down on his neck. No way those buttons are coming off.

Making dolls is my first love. I have not made any for a long long time, but wow, did this little guy bring it back. I didn't make artsy dolls, I made dolls for kids to love. Maybe after the first I will have to get back to that.
