It's super gorgeous! And to answer your question, no, the borders doesn't overwhelm the center. It's too far away to do that, plus it will be mostly over the edge of the bed, won't it? I do like the idea of some more black on the outside... like maybe a 3" border of solid black, if that's not too much. Keep going!

I agree. A black outside border would finish off the quilt nicely.

I agree with Barb. I'd add black before I added the floral stripe border. I love your fabrics!

No matter how much of the black you add to increase the size of the quilt, I think the beautiful border print should be on the outside edge. I also think that it should be finished with mitered corners. The quilt will be a real stunner for beauty. The print panel is beautiful and your quilt design is perfect for it. Be sure to show us the finished quilt.

Do you have any of the softer print from the center panel. I think it would be nice to 'copy' the center and then the larger floral to maybe lay at the edge of the mattress for a frame.
Beautiful and please do show us your final decision.

My eye goes to the octagon border strips, not the center panel. I wonder how I would like it if you border the panel with black, then the patterned strips and put the octagon/strip section as the outside border.

How beautiful !! I think the border is just fine, doesn't overwhelm it because it's far away. Wow!!!

I think your plan is perfect. Nice modification with the octagons, too.

I definitely think the floral border overwhelms. It is absolutely beautiful. I would have gold border. I think it would enhance the beauty of the center. You don’t want the border to outshine the center. But I am in the minority, so it is very individual.
