this quilt has been 3 years in the making. i made the quilt top about 3 years ago and i finally had some spare time to actually do some of my own projects.

i just did SITD along the extremely thin sections to enhance the illusion.

then i did an all over geometric quilt pattern in the dark brown triangles.

Klue, I just love this quilt. You did a very nice job with the quilting. I bet it looks even better in person, which would be difficult, seeing how great it looks in the photos.

That is a really striking piece of art you have created. I love the simplicity of it--you let the illusion speak for itself.

How big is it? And how did you finish it around the edges---I do not see binding.....?

the quilt is a 6 foot square.

    i put on a 1/4 inch binding.

i wanted the points of the illusion to be as close to the quilt edge as possible and the best i could do was a 1/4.

i've never been able to do a 1/8 binding without it rolling and making the quilt edge ruffle.

That's gorgeous Klue. I have to ask, are your eyes uncrossed yet after quilting that top? :D

Nice work on both piecing and quilting.

its a gift to DH for our 18 anniversary. he's going to hang it at his recording studio.

its called "the magic is not an illusion" its a play on a line in a love song he wrote for me - the line in the song is "was all the magic just an illusion".

Aahhh, how lovely to have a love song written for you, it obviously deserved a quilt!

    yes its my design.

i'm working on another that is 6 optical panels joined to make 1 quilt.

i have 1 more panel to make and i'm going to take pics the entire time and post a tute for everyone.

this way you can make either one small panel or you can make 6 and end up with the same quilt that i'll have.
