Here are some of me and my niece working on a pillow for her. I was teaching her about how to do it.

Great sense of color - what was that thing she was using to extend ruler? Got to think of safety first!

You are right Safety first:) I loved those colors too. I had some fabric samples so i laid the ones I thought coordinated down in front of her and then told her to pick a few. She chose the exact ones I was thinking of. :) that's my girl :)

What a fun way to spend time with your niece! The pillow turned out so nice and pretty, I bet she was very proud of herself! You have her on the hook, now just reel her in! You must be her favorite uncle now! :D

Henry, It's great that you're teaching a child to be a future quilting addict! I've been teaching my 9 year old granddaughter and she is definitely hooked. Your niece is lovely and her pillow looks great. She must have a good teacher. Please give her a big hug for me and tell her what a good job she did. :D :D :D

I don't know if you are familiar with Klutz Gloves, but I always recommend them to anyone teaching kids. Check it out:

Henry, tell your niece that I love her pillow. She did an excellent job. That was really nice of you to teach her. I'm sure that it is something that she will never forget.

Awww Henry, what a great pillow. I love the colors, you must have passed your color sense on to your niece. What a lucky beautiful girl!

Enjoy your time with her..( hee hee..I told all of mine that once they turn 13, I don't want to see them until they turn 25..hee hee)

They are a good idea and not just for kids. A lady in our guild who has been quilting for years just last weekend cut the end of her thumb and part of her thumbnail off with her rotary cutter. I intend to order me some.
