    yes, I know that a walking foot would have solved my problem, I just could not use it because it would not fit on to the sewing machine that I was using (I am away from home for 2 months). So far everybody here loves the quilt so I believe that that newly wed couple will like it too.

    the pattern is called 'Dublin' and it was available on the web. the fabrics are batiks and I did not have a walking foot available with me, otherwise there would not be any bunching, but I am still happy with the quilt,
