Just thought I would share my latest quilt. I put this together over the last few weeks, the fabric and some cutting out done several months ago. It was given to my Mother on Saturday evening at her first birthday party ever....her 70th. Our dear Mum has had a pretty tough time of life....especially just recently (her husband of almost 40 years died on the 2nd September) so we wanted to have something very special just for her.

I dearly wanted to hand quilt it, but time was short, so I screwed up my courage and had my first serious effort at machine quilting (sort of in the ditch/possibly more echo quilting). I quilted it on my 1950's Pinnock and found puddling much easier than rolling up the sides. The pattern is "Portuguese Tiles" from M'liss Rae Hawley's book "Phenomenal Fat Quarter Quilts" (which I highly recommend). The front is quite contemporary looking, but as my Mum loves old fashioned rose print, I used that for the back. I used pale lavender for the background fabric and various purples/greens and the odd shot of pink for the blocks (Mum's favourite colours).

Handquilting is still my most favourite form of quilting, but I think I will persevere with the machine quilting....who knows, maybe I will even try FMQ one day. Anyway....mount your horses and gallop by....(I was just so pleased it didn't fall to bits when I washed it!).

That's very pretty. I like the pattern, too. It's one I haven't seen before. Is it your own design?

Hope your mum likes it - it's gorgeous. It's hard when one parent passes after such a lengthy marriage. I wish her well, and you too.

I love it! How wonderful that she is getting a birthday party! So sorry to hear about her hubby but this should help get past the hurt a litte, after all, what is better than cuddling up in a lovely quilt!
