Have you or anyone else tried to make a pincushion using a plastic jar such as a cold cream jar? Just wondering as I use one to hold my pins in transit.

Cute and love the names you picked to go with them. I also would like the instructions.

Just awesome how you made them and your colors are perfect.

thanks, cute pincushions

Quote: From a piece of cardboard (cereal box) cut the top tabs off and then cut a strip the length of the box by 1 1/2 inches. The finished length is about 11 inches. Then cover that with your favorite material. Let that dry. I put that strip in a clean mug that will keep it the shape until it’s ready to glue to the base. Then take the top of a coffee mug and draw a circle around the cup. Make at least 6 circles and then cut them out. Glue 4 together so you have a base. When the base is completely dry, cover it with the material. Have 1 cardboard circle for the inside base and 1 cardboard circle for the base of the pin cushion (these are not covered)
For the cushion itself, I take a 10 x 10 piece of material (or four 5 inch squares and sew them together). I try to make a checkerboard (optional). Cut a circle out of the middle of the squares (I use a bread and butter plate) using pinking shears and then serge the edges (optional). Then take a piece of button thread with a knot at the end and go around the entire circle. Pull it until it closes and leave room for your finger to stuff with poly fill. Knot the circle so it does come apart and then stuff. When that reaches maximum fullness, set aside. Now glue your 1 1/2 inch cardboard that you covered and glue it to the round base. Use a rubber band at the very bottom so they stay together. The ends of the cardboard can overlap and when they do, put some extra glue there because it’s going to have to hold the cushion. I usually wait a day for all to dry. When you’re ready, decorate with anything you like, buttons, bows or extras. When you are ready, hot glue a cardboard circle to the base of the pincushion and press them together. Afterwards fill the base with sand, about 1/3rd of the way up. Put the top inside the base slowly pressing down until you get the height you want. You have the option of gluing the pincushion to the sides of the base, but if the two fit tightly, it’s not necessary.
Enjoy.
