I did 3 pin wheels and this one turned out the best..but still not there..and I am stumped as to why. I ironed both pieces, placed one on top of the other (right sides facing in) and cut them to exact 5 in squares, pressed again..(just setting iron on top not actually moving it around on it) I then sewed 1/4 in seam all the way around it. I then cut it from corner to corner each time. Pressed each piece again (with seams going to the darker color) Sewed the top two together with 1/4 in seam, then the bottom two, then the two sections together. I then pressed again. Can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong? The pin wheel starts the 10th..I hate to start out behind because I can not get it to work right. ha ha ha Be a day late dollar short again lol oops forgot the picture...post that next.. a duh moment lol

Ditto here ... I'm seeing nice points all happily having a meeting in the center. Beautiful color selection too.

I starch mine so the bias does not stretch. This looks good to me!

Hmm, not 100% sure, but when you cut corner to corner, open and press, how do the corners look? On your practice square, the corner in the extreme upper right looks like it would be perfect (stitching coming out a bit?), the one on the upper left looks a bit off, like the orange fabric comes down a bit rather than hitting the corner exactly. If these corners are a bit off, then when you join them the center is going to be off.

Your block look good to me.
On my sample......I used 8" sqs.....sewed 1/4" seam and cut into four triangles. When I measured each triangle....I found a slight difference. Then I trimmed them to 5 1/4" and found they fit together much better.
Can't wait to see all the pinwheels!

try cutting your two squares as you did then draw a diagonal line -- stitch 1/4" on each side of the drawn line then cut on the line and flip open press. i think the precision may be a little better but i usually trim (square up) my blocks after pressing, before joining them. (to square them up i place the 45 degree line on my ruler along the diagonal then trim 2 sides, turn block line up diagonal again and trim the other 2 sides...

The spray starching will help alot with the bias plus remember when you do go to connect this pinwheel to the next block you might have to stretch just a little or ease up a little to make corners or points to match better - but that happens on most everyones. Also try to make sure that you are butting up your seams and locking them together it sure makes the block lay smoother.

    Thanks,

It looks great! Sounds like you're like me....picky...LOL. I want everything I make to be perfect and I get frustrated with myself when it isn't...which it NEVER is!!

I use the Easy Pinwheel block method from Missouri Star Quilt Co. There is a great tutorial on their web. It's so much easier than how you're doing them. Be sure to use a lot of starch on those bias edges :)

You will be making perfect pinwheels by the time you finish!
Practice makes perfect and all that. They look good to me and I'd use them in my quilt!

Something to try is to press your center seams open instead of to the side for less bulk in the middle.
    See if that helps.

mythreesuns, that's how mine look and like you for a while I agonised over getting that final point 'perfect' - then I told myself they looked fantastic and sewed up more just like that one...

Your pinwheels are perfect just the way they are :)

your right or my right..they both look great! Are you talking about that ONE teeny, tiny little point not connecting to the other teeny, tiny little points?

    Oh for pitys sake!!
