Default Placemats and ChowChow

Hi Everyone,
I just finished these rooster placemats from swap blocks that had some small nests on the back. I couldn't send them to the swap partners, because I felt they weren't perfect. So I made us some placemats from them just to save them from the dreaded drawer forever. I think they came out pretty cute. Two of the six shown here.

Hubby is friends with the local vegetable growers around here. They send us fresh vegetables all during the season. So when the hard frost was going to hit us a few days ago, one of them brought in a huge bag of the green tomatoes for chow chow. He knew that I would share the relish with him .. LOL.

So ... fourty one jars later, here it what they look like. Don't you just love fall?

Lovely placemats and I think anyone would be lucky to get them. If the nests really bothered me, I think I would have hand appliquéd a few eggs on the back.Love your pretty canning jars and the Cow Chow will be super this winter. Where is auto correct when you need it? I meant to type Chow Chow because Cow Chow has a whole different meaning.

Your placemats are adorable! They look clean and happy. Will have to think about Chow Chow - my husband would love it, but after all the canning I have done this year, I don't know if more is possible! Yours looks yummy.

Hi murphy,

Chow chow is a sweet spicy relish that is a very southern tradition of putting up what is left in the garden at the end of the season. I was gifted the green tomatoes but the rest of the veggies we bought to make it. It took me eleven hours to make these and clean up. A true labor of love since I don't/can't eat it anymore with diverticulitis.
It is one of those things you either love or hate. I know people who will sit down and eat the whole jar all at once.

I posted a couple years ago the recipe in the section here on the board. But I am thinking about seven cut up veggies go into it. My recipe is different than any you can find on line.
