the technique is called Hot Ribbon Applique. Wonderful way to do applique. Use Steam and seam lite, place the pieces, and the Hot Ribbon is a thin ribbon with glue on the back and it is applied to the edges. This stays on nicely and gives it a sheen that adds to the piece. Shading is done with Coptic Markers.. not sure if this is how you spell that.
