Gorgeous fabric! I would have had to try that one too!

sunkistmi 01-19-2010 12:31 PM

Stunned; no words. Picked out fabric to do one of these but haven't had the nerve to start. I need a class!!! You did an absolutely wonderful job. Thank you for sharing with all of us and inspiring us to try.

All you need is the book One Block Wonders Encore - the pictorial instructions are very clear and it really isnt difficult. It looks daunting I know because I had the book & fabric for a couple of weeks before I started, but once you begin following the instruction it all becomes easy. This is my fourth one, but first with cubes - won't be the last!

gaigai 01-19-2010 11:07 PM

Oooohhh, Katrine, that is Incandescently Gorgeous!!

Katrine 01-19-2010 11:10 PM

Thanks Gai - love the comment - I had a big discussion with myself whether the title should be "Candescence" or "Incandescence"!

crkathleen 01-20-2010 05:28 AM

Katrine, what line of fabric is that from? I LOVE the orange!

stephanie 01-20-2010 05:33 AM

Beautiful. Can you post a picture of the original fabric, as it's interesting to see how the blocks evolve from the original print.

It's a Timeless Treasures fabric - not sure what the range is as I bought it as a one-off specifically for the OBW, but I just went & checked & I have a bit of selvedge which states Patt REGAL CM1433. Hope that helps. It was the orange and maroon together which made me buy it too!

It's on the previous page Stephanie, p3. I forgot to post it with the pieced top, sorry.

sandpat 01-20-2010 06:27 AM

You have me drooling over OBW's this morning! The brights on this one are beautiful!

Katrine 01-20-2010 06:30 AM

Thanks Sandpat - I'm hoping it's going to "light up" a wall!

Oh my gosh, holy smokes its beautiful!

LuckyBreezes 01-22-2010 07:54 AM

What a cool combination of tradition and graphics. The juxtaposition is positively worthy of the Guggenheim museum.

marla 01-24-2010 03:45 PM

Beautiful work. This is an art quilt. Will you put it in a show?

sylvia77 01-24-2010 05:02 PM

Gorgeous quilt Katrine. Love your cubes.

Thanks K for the link about making the cubes.

Nothing like that here Marla - just small associations who may have a small annual exhibition. I like to go to see those and the work is beautiful but almost without exception done by hand. I have already "eyed" a space on a wall here - just started the quilting.

Thank you ladies for generous comments.

Still here making their presence known - but I have to post a new thread in GCC - Peter won 3rd in Haute Vienne Floralies for 2009 for "walls and windows". We (and the Maire) are very chuffed). So I'll sort out some pix & post
Hence I want to show off the garden for him (P)

k3n 01-25-2010 01:44 AM

I'm not surprised! It always looks so beautiful and P works very hard. Look forward to seeing your pics, though I'm VERY lucky and have seen the real McCoy! :-D

alaskasunshine 01-25-2010 05:23 AM

What a treasure you have made!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is lovely  I have the book and have pondered making it, but it really does look difficult.. Your lay out is stunning

Katrine 01-25-2010 05:39 AM

Do have a go at one - it really is an easy technique following the instructions in the book - and you will get addicted too! They are so interesting to make.

wraez 01-25-2010 10:46 AM

Following instructions in a book...that is the hard part for me, don't know why. I do better with visual hands on instruction. Same goes for computer manuals etc.

I've gotten the book a couple of times from the library and enjoyed all the photos but just gave up on reading the instructions. Guess I'll have to give it another go, with determination.

I do understand cos when I first got the book I kept looking at the instructions and pictures - and glazing over - BUT when you actually have your fabric on the mat, pins, ruler and cutter to the ready, it does become clearer. I suppose I had the book over 2 months (of constantly peeking in it) before I "braved" cutting!

wraez 01-25-2010 11:26 AM

Katrine.... yes, 'Glaze over' is exactly what I do! Thanks for understanding.

OK, I will do as you say about being prepared to start.

Now quick question... until I get the book in front of me (from the library), how much yardage of fabric do you recommend? Oh, not for a huge quilt but maybe a large wall hanging? I don't think I have enough yardage of one appropriate fabric right now and will need to go shopping. oh shame.

billswife99 01-25-2010 12:30 PM

Sue, I'm the same way about learning from the book. I did buy this book and thought it would be years before I could do it because I was so new to quilting and really didn't know much at all. Not even the basic terms.
I read this book all the way thru twice before I finally started. If I got confused on a part, I would just read that part over and over till I could get a handle on it. Then when I finally decided to get started, (one whole year later) I kept the book open and went step by step. It took me all day to cut the first time I tried it. I was so scared!! But I'm so glad I tried it, the only problem now it that I can't stop!
