Just finished this top, will be a hanging. First effort at the hollow cubes, they are very well explained in the OBW book and look much harder to do than they really are.

Its approx 49 x 48ins Still on the wall awaiting quilting - I like to quilt 2 or 3 at the same time and find the quilting easier then.

Hi K, it's beautiful! The 3D effect of the cubes in those brights is really striking. And I LOVE the name BTW. :-D

Sharon - NC 01-18-2010 08:11 AM

Wow. I don't know which part I'm most impressed by ... it is gorgeous. I love the background and the blocks absolutely do look 3-D.

Yvonne 01-18-2010 08:19 AM

I have only dreamed of being able to make those 3-D blocks. Someday!!!
Your quilt is lovely and very eye catching! Have fun with the quilting.

Katrine 01-18-2010 08:28 AM

Thank you all for enthusiastic comments - it was Kathryn (k3n) who started me on these OBWs and she did warn me it would become a habit! And I have seen her latest which is gorgeous - wait till you see that!

They are so much fun to make - do have a go at them.

For fans of the cubes there is a new book appearing in April specifically focussing on them

http://www.amazon.com/One-Block-Wond...3831518&sr=8-1

which I suppose I will HAVE to get, tee hee!

k3n 01-18-2010 08:36 AM

Thanks K - glad I recruited another victim, I mean, CONVERT to the OBW cause! But I must say, you've taken to it like a duck to water and your eye for fabrics to use is far better than mine!

I'm done quilting and binding my latest, the machine part - just have to sew in ends and hand sew binding to the back.

Re the cubes, I had a link somewhere which showed all the pages in the OBW Encore explaining how to do them. I'll see if I can find it. :-D

rootyr 01-18-2010 08:37 AM

Whoa, that is awesome!

Yvonne 01-18-2010 08:37 AM

Thanks for the book title,Katrine. I've got it on my "wish list" on Amazon. I think I have to have it too!

k3n 01-18-2010 08:38 AM

http://books.google.fr/books?id=btQ0...onders&f=false

Here's the link which tells you how to do the cubes. :-D

Katrine 01-18-2010 08:38 AM

Was it on the Amazon "read inside" feature?

Katrine 01-18-2010 08:38 AM

sorry that crossed with your post!

k3n 01-18-2010 08:40 AM

No probs! I wish I'd seen it before I bought the second book, although it's still worth having for the border and layout ideas - will be interesting to see what new twists she comes up with in the third! :-D

Katrine 01-18-2010 08:40 AM

You're very welcome - perhaps k3n and myself should start a obw/cube fanclub, or maybe a French branch????

k3n 01-18-2010 08:42 AM

Les Fanatiques des Cubes?

OK I'm off to finish mine - then I can start another one! :-D

Look at the front cover illustration on my Amazon link - there is a smaller cube sitting insider a larger one - aaarrrggghhh - I could get mightily confused (not hard!) with all those little bits sitting next to the machine!

billswife99 01-18-2010 10:54 AM

YUUUMMM-MMEEEE! I love your fabric choice! I haven't ventured into the blocks yet. I'm still a chicken. You sure are tempting me though!

ljsunflower 01-18-2010 10:55 AM

I've never seen a quilt with the hollow cubes on it. That is super cool looking. Great job!

dunster 01-18-2010 11:00 AM
