Do you live near Hillsboro? The pattern was applique, and it came with the flip flop applique pattern. I attached the straps using a zig zag stitch. It's not terribly "clean," but this quilt is just for fun. Then I put a button over the fold to cover the stitching somewhat. I noticed that a few of the buttons are pulling loose, unfortunately. I'm going to have to sew them down more securely. I tied a square knot, and so I'm not sure why it didn't hold.

Love it. I have the pattern and it's on my list. (a very looong list I might add) Hope mine comes out as cute as yours.
