This was fun! Like being back at playschool but with a slightly bigger budget!
I sketched the piece actual size from a photograph then pieced the background using freezer paper templates. Then I embellished the background using silk waste, yarn and fabric scraps, organza, bits of mesh, there's some green corduroy in the pine trees from an old shirt of my son's and the shadow bottom right is a piece of nylon from a pair of tights (pantyhose)! The stones were then fusible appliqued on top and the whole piece thread painted freehand. It measures 25" x 19" and is a scene of standing stones on Dartmoor near where I live in England. I'm about to start another one based on a photo of a seagull against the sky that Hans, my partner took recently when we were walking on the beach. Thanks for looking. :-D Grasses detail Pine trees detail - corduroy with black yarn behind. I love what you've done...this is my favorite style of quilting lately.
|
Love a bit of artistic licence with different textiles.
Fabulous work. |
Love it, I find it is so rewarding when I do a quilt not from a pattern, but just by my own skills and experience with no fear that I might not align a seam right.
|
Amazing!!

And I knew you before you got famous! I bet Hans and the kiddies will be hiding their clothes now, just in case! |
Thanks everyone, I started my seagull this afternoon and without giving too much away, one of the feathery embellishments will be drier lint...

One of these days I am going to be brave enough to try and art quilt. Same as everyone else though - gotta finish all the promised quilts, table runners, card holders, maybe a bed runner....ah boy.................

This is a wonderful use of your inventory and findings! Your stunning work of art reflects your creativity. The photo of the soaring seagull against the glorious cloudy sky is so inspiring for a quilt. Bravo, Hans.
