What beautiful fabrics

amma 02-10-2010 03:09 PM

Very Pretty :D:D:D

beachlady 02-10-2010 03:10 PM

Love the colors. I never see fabric for a dollar. Good find.

BellaBoo 02-10-2010 03:34 PM

One WalMart near me has fabric and I went there last weekend. I bought a lot of the Quilt Fabric of the Month. I think it was $2.46 a yard. It was so pretty. I stocked up on pinks, greens, blues, and creams in medium values. The feel of this fabric is soft, smooth and drapes great. Walmart sure messed up by taking the fabric dept. out of the stores.

littlehud 02-10-2010 03:45 PM

Those are beautiful. I couldn't pass those up either. Great buy.

MarthaVA 02-10-2010 03:48 PM

Pretty - and a great find!

n2scraplvr 02-10-2010 05:11 PM

Can't believe what nice fabrics you got for $1? a yd? They are so pretty. We can't wait to see what you make! :D :D

RedGarnet222 02-10-2010 05:15 PM

Oh pretty choices! That is one great price for a stash starter.

Sheila Elaine 02-10-2010 05:35 PM

Your color choices will go with the 1930's retro fabrics very well. Any idea what you'll make yet?

We have two W-M's within 10 miles of each other & the fabric dept in the one nearest me will be gone by March. I'm planning on going to the one further when I go for my eye exam last of Feb. Put out the word that they need to save me fabric, lots of fabric.

quilter rkc 02-10-2010 05:40 PM

The WMs in my area are all phasing out the fabric dept and we quilters are very disappointed. The last store went to 5o% off and there is little cotton left.

I just came home from buying material also at the wallmart here for a dollar a yard. I also bought three yards of each. It was material from there block of the month that they have had.

sharon b 02-10-2010 06:42 PM

The dollar fabric mine gets is so thin you can see thru it  You did GREAT ! Now we want to see what you make  Any plans yet ?

Wine Woman 02-10-2010 06:49 PM

That's a beautiful start for stash! Watch out soon it will turn into collecting and begin to be a hobby!

wvdek 02-10-2010 06:51 PM

Wow, $1 a yard for 100% cotton fabric? Geesh, if I wasn't buried up to my *** in snow and wind, I would drive the hour to my W-mart fabrics and see what the y have.

DianD 02-10-2010 07:58 PM

I, too, added to my stash today. Wish I had your restraint!
I got 21 1/2 yards for $23.00at my local W-Mart. Now my problem is deciding which of my new pretties I want to use first! (Did I go overboard?)

Don't think you went overboard at all. You can't beat the price and hopefully everything will find it's way into a quilt.

cjomomma 02-10-2010 08:29 PM

I too bought fabric at WM. I got about 40 plus yards over a 3 day period for 1.00 a yard, I think I got about 9 different colors and prints. I got some of the same prints and colors you got. The last time I went to WM my DH was with me. I picked up 2 bolts that were marked 1.00 a yard and asked him how much can I get, he said how much do you need and I said I don't need any of it I just want it. He just laughed and walked away, so I got 5 1/2 yards of each. the fabric was so pretty. I was like a kid in a candy shop.

dizzy 02-10-2010 08:37 PM

ours is $1.50 ayrd now were you at were your at might have something to do with it.

mrspete 02-10-2010 08:48 PM

oh my, lucky you. I went there today and did not even go to the fabric dept. Gosh! I gotta make time to go.

alaskasunshine 02-10-2010 09:28 PM

Holy moly you did great! I love those "blenders" You are on your way to being a crazy collector like the rest of us

craftiladi 02-10-2010 09:38 PM

Great bargain. I was at my walmart today and got some for a 1.50 a yd but you got a better deal...gotta love it.

Boxer mom 02-10-2010 10:12 PM

Gee, we must be mind readers. I was at Wal-mart just a few hours ago and stocked up also on the $1.00, $2.50 and the $2.44 a yard. I think the reciept showed 20 items.

Jeri6 02-11-2010 12:25 AM

Are all the Walmarts loosing the Fabric Department? I know the ones in Sacramento, CA closed out their Fabric Department. We moved from there to Washington and the Walmart here in our little town still has a pretty nice selection of material and sewing supplies. I hope they do not close it out. It seems like it would make money for the store with all the quilters/sewing crafted people out there.I wonder what the reason is?

I got the block of the month fabric for January last week. They were 1.00 a yrd also. In March (if there is any left) I will pick up all the 1.00 yrd fabric they have. Last week I think I got close to 50 yrds of fabric. Here is a pic of what I have started to make with my buck fabric. This fabric is not real heavy but it does have a good feel to it.

cminor 02-11-2010 03:54 AM

I don't know what I am going to make yet. I am still working on my last one. I am lucky - the WM by us is not only keeping the fabric, but got a new cutting table within the last couple weeks. It is smaller than the old one,but at least that means the departments is not going anywere.

krazy4quilts 02-11-2010 04:34 AM

Ive talked to our WM and the lady said that our's and one other WM are the only ones to still have uncut fabric department (some of the other walmarts sells fabric by fat 1/4's or precut 1 yrd packages charm packs and such. She also told me they were not getting rid of the fabric department. But what is weird is all the yarn is over by stationary and dog food????

cjomomma 02-11-2010 05:40 AM

Our WM was going to get rid of all their fabrics until the local college pitched a fit and put a stop to it. But they did clearance a lot of it out, got a lot of fabric for .25 a yard over the summer, great stuff for backing. their supply is small and they mostly carry the expensive stuff but atleast they still have it.
I don't go to our lqs cause the owner is very rude. If you are not there to buy yards and yards of stuff then she don't want to wait on you.

reginalovesfabric 02-11-2010 08:24 AM

you're lucky our two super centers closed their fabric departments and I'm upset about it.

Regina

alaskasunshine 02-11-2010 08:31 AM

In between chatting with "2 love birds" today I will try to get to our WM and see what they have, no tellin' I suspect since we live on another planet...ALASKA it will be more $$$$.
Thanks for the heads up.

Krazy4quilts, your block is so pretty!!! I love it!

BarbieQ 02-11-2010 10:14 AM

I bought the $1.00 yd fabric at wally world before and thought it was great but once i washed it I knew what a bargain i got. All was misshappen and the weave was not top quality.Lesson learned.

Sheree from Chicago 02-11-2010 10:46 AM

I've not bought fabric at Walmart or Joanns because I'm afraid after all the work going into a quilt something horrible will happen to the fabric over time - like it will disintegrate or something!

krazy4quilts 02-11-2010 10:57 AM

Not sure where mom got the fabric. but I do know it was not from a quilt shop, I was about 16 I think.so about 30 yrs ago give or take. She and I made a quilt, no rotary cutter or mat back then. I did all the cutting mom did the sewing. Im sure the fabric was purchased at either Ben Franklins or TG&Y maybe Wal mart. Im going with TG&Y cause she worked there at that time I think. Anyway, my mother can make a penny squeal so I am sure she didnt pay alot for this fabric. That twin quilt is still going strong. I used it as a teen my daughters and nieces and nephew has used it and now my grand kids use it when they stay and G Grandma's.

sewsue 02-11-2010 11:00 AM

Sigh those are just great bargains, sigh when will I ever see a quilt shop with that type of bargains????

cjomomma 02-11-2010 11:07 AM

I washed all the fabric I got at WM and there was little fraying and the material held together extremely well. Needless to say but I am very happy with it. You just have to know what to look for when making purchases. There was some 1.00 fabric that I wouldn't buy cause I know it would end up in the trash.

bstanbro 02-11-2010 11:20 AM

I love a good deal! Score!

Ducky 02-11-2010 11:30 AM

Beautiful fabric!!!! I would have stocked up, too! :-D I am particularly drooling over the rose colored one in the middle. Soooo pretty!

Jeannie 02-11-2010 12:09 PM

Watch WalMark closely. They are getting rid of their fabric. I went by on a Friday and they had put it 50% off the previous Monday and the shelves were bare. Made me sick!

quiltincharlotte 02-11-2010 01:21 PM

Just WHERE is this Wal-Mart?!?!?!

Our WalMart is in the process of closing their fabric department. I talked to the department manager and she said the reason behind the decision to close the fabric department (and the seafood/meat counter) was that WalMart is trying to get rid of any department that requires customer service. They want the store to be self-service as much as possible. I asked if they would still be carrying notions, fat quarters, machines, etc. and she said they haven't been informed of that decision yet. I wasn't big on buying fabric there, but sometimes they are way cheaper for the notions, etc.
