I have a client who said she just wanted to throw some money at someone to make her college daughter a t-shirt quilt. I got a book and studied and told her I would do it. First time I ever documented How long it takes me to make a queen size quilt. It took 45 1/2 hours. She gave me $200. to get started, which it took all of that. Then $100. to get it quilted. She is super excited about the turn out and so am I! I hope this doesn't come across as bragging , I just wanted to share with you all.

Thanks for sharing your quilt with everyone. You did a spectacular job.

sue z q 09-03-2012 05:23 AM

I can see why she's excited! It's fantastic. Isn't there a saying "it's not bragging if you can do it"? Well, you did it. Great job.

hcarpanini 09-03-2012 05:23 AM

So you did this all for $300? We are never paid for what we are worth! But because we love the process we do it anyway!

hcarpanini 09-03-2012 05:23 AM

PS. It's beautiful!

Wow! Good for you, I've made several of these and never got anywhere near that much, congratulation on finding someone willing to pay what all the effort is worth! Eventhough you may not be doing accurate piecing like some patterns, it is a lot of work and you did a fabulous job! Obviously she was pleased!

You definitley deserve the money, you did a fantastic job on this quilt, I've heard T-shirt quilts are not easy to do because of the stretching of the T-shirt fabric. This one you did is awesome.

Tashana 09-03-2012 09:10 AM

You are my hero! Your quilt is amazing and it is great that you got paid well for your hard work. It is hard, almost impossible, putting value on our work but I think you deserve every penny. I am about to make two commissioned quilts fot the first time. One is for a friend's mother and I am doing it for free and the other is a fundraising quilt for my boy's Scout , of course also free. My hubby thinks that this will open the doors for more commissioned quilts that will pay but I am at loss as to how I would charge for them and also I am not sure that my skills are good enough for the world of professional quilting. According to my DH and DM my quilts are beautiful but they are family, not quilters, so they love anything i make even complete disasters. As I said in the beginning, you are my hero!

Wonderful quilt !!! I am sure she is going to love it. It is fabulous.

leighway 09-04-2012 04:23 AM

Fantastic job! Did you use interfacing to steady up the tee-shirts and if so, what weight or brand did you use? I've seen quilts like this where nobody really knew what to use to back the shirts and they came out too stiff. Would love to know your experience with this.

sasquilter 09-04-2012 04:26 AM

Narda. That is a beautiful quilt. I love the way you used the small block around each shirt. You always do such beautiful work.

mjsylvstr 09-04-2012 04:30 AM

Believe me, it's worth every penny of that $1100.00.
I know as I made a 90"x90" Harley Davidson T-shirt quilt for my son......which earned me "0-$" but a love of lovin'

Been asked if I would do another and the answer is an absolute "NO".....unless it's for another son!!!!!

It is beautiful....congrats.
