10 minute table runner.....

1 Attachment(s)
I've been doing these for a while now and decided to try something different. I thought I'd try it with some lace that I got from my sister. I'm so pleased with how it came out.

I've used rick rack along the short edge before. Or either added buttons. Never really sure how to quilt it. I've even used batting in it to "poof" it up some.

I'm just wondering for those that have made them before how have you embellished it?

Wondering minds would like to know....

garysgal 05-07-2012 05:16 PM

I have only made a couple and I used some buttons on one. It turned out cute. I like your idea of lace and rick rack. I think I'll try one or the other on the next one I make. They sew up fast and are really pretty. thanks for the pic.

I've used yo-yos, buttons, buttons on top of yo-yos, and even tassels, but I never thought of lace. I have lots of lace and now that my daughters are older, they're not into lacy dresses anymore. This would be a great way to use up some of it and dress up some holiday runners as gifts. As for the added puffiness, a friend of mine got me into using fusible fleece. It gives it the look of being quilted, but with much more heat absorption for use with candles.

A great idea!

mighty 05-08-2012 06:14 AM

Looks beautiful!!!

jcrow 05-08-2012 07:32 AM

I use lace a lot in my quilts, but never thought of using it in table runners. Great idea. I really think your table runner is cute! Like the fabric also.

Nanaquilts44 05-08-2012 11:08 AM

Love it! Where did you get that darling bunny fabric?

timpson 05-08-2012 12:01 PM

My daughter and I use glitter craft paints, glow-in-the-dark clear paints, and even buttons, i.e., lady bugs, etc. The red lady bugs are my signature trademark on all quilts, as I always include them on each quilt whether painted, embroidered, buttoned, etc. Just have fun with it and think outside the box of what is considered "acceptable" or "traditional".

Your runner is really cute! I made several of these runners last year and now cannot remember the dimensions to cut the fabrics. Can anyone send these figures to me?
thanks in advance, Penny

My pattern is buried in the sewing room, but here's a link that I found: http://quilting.craftgossip.com/free...er/2011/11/21/

3incollege 05-08-2012 02:21 PM

Very nice! Is it too late to make one or Mothers day?

Happy Tails 05-09-2012 02:46 AM

not if it only takes 10 minutes lol

NOELLA 05-09-2012 04:04 AM

I saw this runner for the first time last week at our quilters meeting was inpressed, we had some guest off one of the
cruise ships that comes into our island and they shared this runner with us am planning to make some for our church
Christmas fair. I plan to emblish mine in some way as I have a lot of trim.
Nice going ,Noella

Regarding the measurements, my standard is WOF 12" on inside and 18" for the back/sides. I've made several sizes - one of which was for a small table and it was very narrow. The lace is really a cute idea. I've used the rick-rack on the short ends and also lots of buttons & findings. Since I'm from Nebraska, I've made quite a few of the Nebraska Cornhusker (football team) runners and they're always a hit.

I use 1/2 yard and 1/4 yard. I have also used drapery fabric for a longer runner. Works great. Same yardage.

yetta 05-09-2012 05:19 AM

your table runner is great, I like the use of lace along the length...I have only used it for the ends...,thanks for posting your runner.....

Jingle 05-09-2012 06:19 AM

Very pretty, I don't make them but I like seeing others. My table is never cleared off long enough to put any decoration on it. I use it for quilt making.

IdahoSandy 05-09-2012 07:11 AM

I could really go for more lace especially on the outer edges, but I like old fashioned looks.

linmid 05-09-2012 07:19 AM

What a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

Ms Grace 05-09-2012 07:21 AM

That is so cute!
I love the bunny fabric. What pattern did you use?

Momyar 05-09-2012 07:29 AM

Thanks all for the sweet words. I got the fabric from Joann's either before Easter. I typically cut the center fabric about 9 inches wide and use 18 inches for the outer fabric.

I had never thought about using yo yo's before. Will definitely consider that option. Most of the time I put rick rack on the short edge. but happened to think about the lace this time.

I've also seen where the fabric is the same on both sides and they use the "back" as the front and use things to embellish it.

I actually cut this runner shorter than it came out. I wanted the bow in the center of the runner. It was off centered about 3 inches. just folded it in half at the bow and then cut it off.

One suggestion I do have when making this is after you sew the top seam, press it down really well especially the top that way when you turn the corner it will have a nice point.

Thanks again for the suggestions and sweet words!

Hugs!

Momyar 05-09-2012 07:35 AM

Also when making this I would also mark the centers on the long sides matching the centers. That way it will lay a lot nicer and straighter.

After I sew the "tube" I also iron the center on the short side. That way I know they also match.

Good luck and I can't wait to see some others!

Scrap41 05-09-2012 07:54 AM

I have used buttons and yo yo's to decorate with, also saw a fancy christmas ornament on one in a
store, which I tried to find....not just before Christmas. I had made 4 of them for a neighbor lady out
of a beautiful black/gold/cream print and thought the cream christmas ornament would be nice...couldn't
find any, so used 2 sizes of yo yo's out of the 2 colors in the table runner; she liked them. I am going
to look early this year for those fancy ornaments to add to some more of these for gifts at Christmas.
The store also added a tassel too out of gold. Wouldn't be a good thing if there were children in the
home!!

llong0233 05-09-2012 08:42 AM

That is so sweet! I've only been on the board a little over 2 years and I have never seen this. I'm so glad I did, though, because I'm looking for something fast to make up for our bedroom dresser that will be somewhat cat-proof, that is to say, washable, durable inexpensive. Thanks loads for showing us this great idea. And I love your variation with lace. Perfect with the bunnies.

Pat G 05-09-2012 08:46 AM

How cute that is. Hope you don't mind that I printed a pix of yours since I'm going to be teaching my dtr in law how to make "10 Minute Runners" soon. She's a new sewer & it's going to be fun to work with her on this.

Pat

Cute! But I'd avoid buttons and anything of the sort. Don't need to turn over a pitcher of milk.

Carol W 05-09-2012 10:56 AM

Cute idea!!

DixieDoodle 05-09-2012 11:35 AM

Thank you for this link, I am anxious to try this table runner. Just need to clear the sewing machine of a WIP, lol.

glenda5253 05-09-2012 11:40 AM

Lovely table runner and great ideas for dressing them up...Thanks!

Quilt Novice 05-09-2012 12:22 PM

Very pretty!

QUILTNMO 05-09-2012 01:01 PM

very nice!!!

Ps 150 05-09-2012 01:27 PM

My daughter made a much shorter version of this with batting for her cat to sleep on. She used flannels and it came out oh so cute. I posted a pic on here somewhere, but since the quiltingboard changed, I haven't been able to find all of my old posts.

Debra Mc 05-09-2012 03:01 PM

We made these at retreat. I don't really like them. Yours is real pretty though.

emt2004 05-09-2012 03:24 PM

I used buttons at the points and wrapped the hoop from the tassels around the buttons. Made them out of Xmas fabric and gave as gifts..........Michele

Love this pattern you can do so many things with it............. here is what I did..... had an orphan block sitting there so decided to use it in a 10 min runner.

wolph33 05-09-2012 05:28 PM

looks great

debcavan 05-09-2012 05:31 PM

These are just cool. What a great way to show case a beautiful fabric.

Momma_K 05-10-2012 07:05 AM

Oh how pretty!! It gives me ideas on how to make a runner for my wooden drop leaf table, I have a toolbox full of buttons and had no idea or maybe just not thought of them until now!! Thank you for sharing!

Momyar 05-10-2012 08:32 AM

@ScrapQuilter.....I love your orphan block runner!! What a great idea!!!! Hadn't thought about doing that either. I've got a whole list of things now to add to my runners.

@PatG...of course I don't mind.

I did one for Christmas (don't tell anyone it's still on the table) that I put silver snow flake buttons on. I don't have kids at my house so I don't have to worry about that. Thought about tassels but wasn't sure how I wanted to attach them.

Keep on giving me ideas everyone!!!!

Ps 150 05-11-2012 06:00 PM

I used small tassels, attached where the fold meets the center panel with fancy buttons.
