Renee I just took a FMQ class and before I did my thread kept breaking too. I found the secret to keeping your thread from breaking. 1st you should use the best quality thread you can afford since there is so much pressure being put on the thread in this process but the secret is...........put the pedal to the metal!!!! Make the machine go as fast as it can and control your hands at a more contrlooed speed. It takes some getting used to but it works. It is a bit nerve racking at first. Oh and even though your feed dogs are down put your stitch length at 0.0. That way the machine timing is turned off and it will go faster still. It works try it with a practice peice. Once you get the hang of it, it is fun. Oh one more thing your needle is important. She told us not to use the universal needles.

AHHHHHh I think you got it I was using univeral needles. Now I know I'll buy some needles just for that. I haven't had problems before but I did have top stitch needles that weren't univeral. Thanks for that tip and everything else.

I like the colors. The fabrics are so rich-looking.

I did my October Doll quilt right after the class. It hasn't arrived at the destination yet but hopefully soon. Once I had a bit of information I was dangerous. HAHA

One other thing that I'd recommend for FMQ besides what has already been mentioned is to get a pair of quilting gloves, the kind with the rubber dots all over the palms. They make a tremendous difference in the ability to control the quilt and where it's going. Without them, it's like trying to wrestle a St. Bernard.

Teehee, trying to wrestle a St. Bernard, huh? Done that a few times working at the Animal Shelter.

Anyway, the quilt is beautiful. Nice rich colors and great design. Quilt inspector loves it, too.
