I missed the best shot of Buddy inbetween the quilt. He pulled the top down over him and went to sleep. Oh silly kitty. I wanted to quilt this quilt with the meander, but the thread broke 5 to many times, ripped it out, tried different thread and needle, bobbin thread came to the top 2 to many times, ripped that out then I just surcame to stitch in the ditch. Hopefully tonight will be binding, and off to the new owner, who I did send a picture to him and he's in love.

Renee: love your quilt; the colors are beautiful. What pattern did you use? I've about given up on FMQ; if I want something other than SID I have to draw it then just sew over it.
I love the look on Buddy's face. Looks like you may have to fight him for ownership!! Pets-gotta love 'em. Great job. |
Thank you very much those are civil war fabrics from moda jelly roll, and I got a book (can't remember the name) for the pattern. I can't wait to give it to the owner, who's a good friend of ours he's so excited after seeing the picture. My goal is to get it completed this weekend so I can do a bunch of other stuff.

It's suppose to be manly but looks more womenly to me. lmao

Thank you everyone.
Love it! Buddy loves it and your friend loves it....what more could you want??? I live those Moda CW prints...really nice!
Beautiful quilt, I thought those were the CW fabrics when I saw them. Be sure to post pics before you send it off to him. He's a very lucky friend, indeed!
Will do Eddie I think I'll get a picture of him getting it. It's called Frankie's Blankie.
Your friend is very lucky. I think your quilts is beautiful, as is your inspector ;) :)
I love that quilt!! And are you sure your quilt inspector is going to let you send it out of the house??? And Buddy is just beautiful!
Renee I just took a FMQ class and before I did my thread kept breaking too. I found the secret to keeping your thread from breaking. 1st you should use the best quality thread you can afford since there is so much pressure being put on the thread in this process but the secret is...........put the pedal to the metal!!!! Make the machine go as fast as it can and control your hands at a more contrlooed speed. It takes some getting used to but it works. It is a bit nerve racking at first. Oh and even though your feed dogs are down put your stitch length at 0.0. That way the machine timing is turned off and it will go faster still. It works try it with a practice peice. Once you get the hang of it, it is fun. Oh one more thing your needle is important. She told us not to use the universal needles.
AHHHHHh I think you got it I was using univeral needles. Now I know I'll buy some needles just for that. I haven't had problems before but I did have top stitch needles that weren't univeral. Thanks for that tip and everything else.
I like the colors. The fabrics are so rich-looking.

I did my October Doll quilt right after the class. It hasn't arrived at the destination yet but hopefully soon. Once I had a bit of information I was dangerous. HAHA
Hi Renee,
One other thing that I'd recommend for FMQ besides what has already been mentioned is to get a pair of quilting gloves, the kind with the rubber dots all over the palms. They make a tremendous difference in the ability to control the quilt and where it's going. Without them, it's like trying to wrestle a St. Bernard. |
Teehee, trying to wrestle a St. Bernard, huh? Done that a few times working at the Animal Shelter.
Anyway, the quilt is beautiful. Nice rich colors and great design. Quilt inspector loves it, too. |
I have those Eddie got them way back when but I also have this thing that looks like a half a circle with a grip on the bottome of it for fmq pretty cool too. I still have to figure out how to handle all the draping from the front, rear, and side so that the quilt moves freely.
Rene - that is such a nice quilt, I love the colors in it. I hope you are able to get it done so you can move on to your other projects - but don't let this one leave you too early! Enjoy looking at it completed for a couple days!!!
Thanks, but I'll let it go early since I can go over and visit all the time Frank lives 20 houses from us. lol
Oh, that's funny LOL!! Okay, so long as you can visit with it! Is Frank a relative?
No he's just a good friend.
Very cute. Oh and the quilt is wonderful.
Renee you did a really nice job on this quilt. I wish I could see the whole thing though. Give buddy a shove and take a pic of it wtihout him, please.
LOL! My cat (who is no longer alive) sampson looked almost like this little buddy's twin. He was quite the talker and everone loved him because he was so smart. |
Okay red I will take another picture of it. I'll have DH hold it up. Will post tomorrow.
Your fabrics are gorgeous! All Civil War stuff? I still have hopes of learning to FMQ!, but so far I haven't had much luck. I'm a SID girl all the way--and I'm not even too good at that! You have my sympathy!
great job i like all colors in one
Thank you everyone.
I love the fabrics and what you've done with them. Absolutely fantastic job. Sometimes CW fabrics are hard to get in quilt shops up here in the Great White North. :)
