Here's the jacket DD made. Finished it up today :)

We started out with the jacket pattern found here:
http://www.sewinggarden.com/patterns..._hooded_jacket

There's also a children's version here:
http://www.sewinggarden.com/patterns..._hooded_jacket

She had a bit of guidance, but did the work herself.
We had to lengthen it because she's almost 5ft 9 in tall.
And we decided that the back, which originally called for the horse panel to go all the way to the shoulders, should have a yoke instead.
Quilted with horseshoes.

BTW, I'm one proud mama :D

Yup, lined in red flannel... it's what she wanted

Very nice looking jacket. super job!

clem55 06-11-2010 11:24 AM

I know how proud you must be, and I bet your daughter is quite pleased with herself. It thrills me to see young girls interested in sewing apparel. Sewing was my passion for so many years, but daughter and grandgaughter show no interest at all.

cashmommy11 06-11-2010 11:37 AM

What a great jacket, and because she designed it and made it, it's even more special.

I love the horseshoe quilting motif. I have that horse fabric. I am going to fussy cut it and make and attic windows quilt. Of course, that's as soon as my ufos are done and I can ever get off reading the board every night! :D

Barb_MO 06-11-2010 03:39 PM

Wonderful jacket. Your daughter did a fantastic job.

annieshane 06-11-2010 03:39 PM

I totally agree. She did a fantastic job, fabric placements just at right spot...and you even though of quilting with horseshoes. Fantastic. Your daughter must be very excited and proud, as you are.

Great job, Mom, with your guidance and expertise.

Your DD did a fantastic job on her horse jacket. She'll be the envy of all her friends. They'll be begging her to make them one! Yes, you should be proud of your DD.

RedGarnet222 06-11-2010 05:59 PM

Annz 06-12-2010 05:20 PM

This is a really great job. I love the horseshoe on the outside of the hood. I would have loved to have seen her happy face.

Gerbie 06-12-2010 06:16 PM

Kara, One of my favorite names. That is my daughter's name, spelled the same way. Your daughter did a great job, but would love to see her face. What actually showed, looks like a beautiful young lady. Glad she likes to sew, my daughter has no desire and when I mention it she just says"Mom why should I when I have you to sew for me." lol
