16" Mini Quilt Top

7 Attachment(s)
I made this 12 1/2 inch mini quilt top today and when it is finished will be 16" squared.

What I did;
#1 cut 1 1/2 inch strips
#2 sewed these strips together
#3 cut it down to 3" square
#4 sewed 4 of those squares together
#5 once sewed together I trimed down to 4 3/4" squares
#6 also cut some circular/flowery batiks pieces into 4 3/4" squares
#7 alternated each square and than stitched them up 3 squares per row, with 3 rows for a total of 9 mini squares

Next you will see half a dozen different color borders I have put on the wall next to te mini pieced top trying to decide which looks best so I'm going to ask y'all if you would view it and let me know which one you like best.

Thanks

Cute mini! I like broders 3 and 6, are they the same fabric, just different widths? If so, i like the wider border.

Lovely! I think I prefer 1 and 2 for the border. There is something about that light green that really makes the blocks pop for me.

wolph33 08-08-2012 02:14 PM

wow-great batiks.I like the dark purple border the best-makes it pop.

Sarah in Brooklyn 08-08-2012 02:17 PM

I like the 3rd one

Marilynsue 08-08-2012 02:47 PM

I like the 2nd and 5th borders.

I love #3[dark border] if it was cut down about half. Put a straight piece of paper on it and see what you think. It is a beautiful piece of work. I love it. It looks so hard to do.

It really isn't. Key is to use fabrics that fool the mind into thinking it is hard to do. :-)

Very pretty. The dark purple makes it pop! But it's your quilt--all are acceptable.

Grandma Peg 08-08-2012 03:04 PM

Very nice mini quilt and like the pink border.

EvelynJ 08-08-2012 03:07 PM

Gorgeous! I love all of them. Thank you for the information on how you made them; for a beginner like me that information is useful.

Raggiemom 08-08-2012 03:11 PM

I like the dark multi (next to last one). I think it really accentuates the colors beautifully.

nellybelle 08-08-2012 03:23 PM

I like the last one.

LTeachergeorge 08-08-2012 03:48 PM

Beautiful mini quilt!!! I like the navy or dark purple borders best. The seem to frame in best in my opinion. Thank you for sharing!

How much fun this little quilt is. For me it would be the last pic. That dark purple is awesome.

I like both dark borders and love that circular/flowery batik. I have used it before....cute!

GramaLaura 08-08-2012 04:37 PM

I like the pale green and the deep purple. Sure will be pretty when finished! :)

Diane007 08-08-2012 05:05 PM

l like your purple fabric

psumom 08-08-2012 05:25 PM

I like #3 the best. Really cute quilt!

M.I.Late 08-08-2012 05:45 PM

Love #3 (#2 absolute no - because of that one green piece on the right)

heather1949 08-08-2012 06:55 PM

I don't like mini's myself but yours looks beautiful, well done.

BrendaY 08-08-2012 08:16 PM

Awww heck... I like all of them! Aren't little quilts fun to make!

Janet L52 08-08-2012 08:27 PM

Beautiful work! I prefer the dark purple, it really enhances all the other colors in the quilt!

beatys9 08-08-2012 08:37 PM

I like both #3 & #6 though I think I favor #6. The darkness of #3 pops the dark pieces in the rail fence but I think #6 does both that and compliments nicely with the print in the corners & center.

Teddybear Lady 08-08-2012 08:41 PM

I think any of them would work, but my favorite is the last one.

angiecub 08-08-2012 08:41 PM

I like #3, the dark blue or purple, can't tell, but either way, it looks great.

oksewglad 08-08-2012 08:57 PM

#2 and #4 (green and pink) softens the colors in the batiks. But the purples make it sing. Thanks for sharing.

GailG 08-08-2012 10:09 PM

I like #2 and #6 test, but really each one is great in it's own way. Just depends on what effect you want. Great block.

Lissa 08-09-2012 02:10 AM

Really pretty...good to feast my eyes on! Really admire the #1 border...i think it is in keeping with the colors of the block.

That's my pick, too! This is one adorable little quilt, no matter what border you use! What are you going to use it for? I have a BD this month... LOL!

Blinkokr 08-09-2012 03:06 AM

They are just beautiful borders and thank you for sharing, which ever you choose it will look terrific.
Have a Blessed day

Love border #4 or last one Brings out the background Color in the flower batik

laurafet 08-09-2012 04:06 AM

I like any of the dark borders. They bring out the color contrasts in the central piecework. Beautiful!

Definitely the dark purple...frames the quilt and makes the blocks pop! Love your colors and pattern!

One of the guilds I belong to is sponsoring a silent auction and the funds earned from it will benefit the Historical Society in that area.

I'm not much of a quilter and a new one at that so I felt I might be able to do something halfway decent and do one for the auction.

I much prefer just designing and creating and let someone else do the quilting but I think its time I gave it a try.

Mariposa 08-09-2012 05:50 AM

Sew pretty! That last dark purple for a border really makes things "pop"!

mcb1180 08-09-2012 05:52 AM

I'm partial to the green and the two purples. If I had to pick just one... I'd go with that last border option.

Beeboop71 08-09-2012 06:00 AM

They are all so beautiful and I love love love the batik fabrics. But if I were to pick just one I really love the dark purple border. The inside just pops!
