What a treasure you have!

I have a table of about the same vintage. The top lifts back and it has spaces with the old sock thread. and a gold painted insert with dished out spots for snaps, buttons, , etc. Then two drawers with lots of goodies. My Mom had it and when she passed away I got it. I have added some items but not taken any thing out of it at all. The finish is crackled and I have been trying to decide what to do about it. It has inlaid veneer on it. Not sure how thick it is. Jan

How wonderful you are able to treasure this fabulous piece of history. Cherrish it, use it and think of her always.

What a treasure, lucky you! Think of all the memoires you have.

What a nice sewing box. As we complain about our messy sewing rooms, think about how much a woman accomplished with so little just a couple of generations ago. And she KNEW where her scissors were every time she needed them!

1900's sounds like that was sooo long ago. Yikes! lovely spool box though.

It looks like something your grandfather might have made just for her. Do you know the history of it? My granddaddy madd all sorts of things like that for my grandmother including a drop-leaf sewing table for her to make my father's layette on. His sister inherited it and then it came to me as the only one interested in sewing - I made my 2 sons' layettes and some quilts using it - then one of the sons 'adopted' it - I actually hope to get it back at some point when I have a bigger place - nobody's using it for sewing or quilting, and that is it's destiny!!
