Here are two tops I've finished recently. I've started a war on my scraps since trying to organize my room, folding fabrics and putting them in bins.
So, here are two of some of my recently finished tops. I got the ideas from you all here. Thanks so much. I'm working on another one like the one with the red border, only I'm going to twist the squares so every other one be a different direction and may use either black or bright green as the cohesive unit. I found the huge one (the 1.5" strips) to be actually faster than the other one as all I did was sit down and sew strips together. It did take a couple/few days of free time to do that, but I did manage to use up a lot of 1.5" strips that way. Then, I cut them into 5.5" lengths. The 3" border was created at the same time as the other blocks. The scrappy border on the blue quilt was created using adding machine (I think mine was credit card printouts) paper tape and sewing misc. shaped pieces to it til I had enough to go around the border. I was pleased with how they turned out. I use the crazy border on the crazy squares and the organized 1.5" border on the 1.5" quilt. So, thanks for the great ideas for using up scraps and helping me get my sewing room more under control. I am planning on making a scrappy log cabin with 1.5" strips and several scrappy irish chain quilts. I still have a bag full of 2.5" squares (6-8000) I cut out...maybe a scrappy 9 patch? I have many blocks already cut out--this is just to use up the misc. stuff stuffed into big plastic bags that isn't organized. A lot of it is leftover from the backs of charity quilts. Crazy scrappy Very heavy, 1.5" strips scrappy |
Beautiful.

Wow, those are gorgeous. I love scrappy quilts. :)

Very Nice

Wow, I think you're winning your war on scraps- they are great!
So cool, the first one looks like your looking through window panes. I like the both
Wow! These are very nice!

These are two I'm very pleased with. I have another one I finished recently but it is decidedly "not as good" in that the design (the colors) aren't as defined. Thus, the quilt ends up being kind of a mish-mash and not as pleasing to the eyes. Live and learn. From now on I'll do my scrappies with a bold or very light or bright sashing. |
Pretty scrappy quilts :D:D:D
Two very nice quilts! Don't think we ever win the war on scraps but yours became something beautiful.
Love the red one!
Both are such a great scrap buster. I prefer the more organized look of the second one but the first one reminds me of the scrappy quilts of our grandparents.

I love scrappy quilts and yours are STUNNING!!
Wow, that strip scrappy is great. Pictured on its side like that it reminds me of shelves of books.
great scrappy quilts!!!
Those are both fantastic! Are you making any headway on your scraps? I'm trying to do the same thing, and I swear they're reproducing themselves! That scrap bin just never seems to get any smaller!
I love them both!

I have 124 blocks already made for the next one (like the red one), only going to put the blocks sideways and straight up and down using maybe bright green as sashing... But honestly, no, I don't FEEL like I'm making headway, though I surely MUST be. What I'm trying to say is that these are new scraps that haven't been cut up before. I already have strips in 2", 2.5", 3", 3.5" and 4", plus squares in 3" (some), 4" (lots) and 5 and 6" inches. :) |

Your quilts are so creative.
Fun to see. You must have used miles of thread for these wonders. Thank you so much for showing us. |
Those are great! Especially the 2nd one...I'm in awe!!!
I love them both!! The 2nd one is my favorite, really love it!
They are beautiful. I think I like the second best. I like the borders
Wow, nice quilts--you must have had tons of scraps.
I guess you must have put a pretty good dent in your stash with those two pretty scrappies.
Scrappy quilts are my favorites.. I usually only make scrappy quilts. I really love the second one.. I like something like the shashing that pulls it all together.
Beautiful quilts, a job well done! |
wow, i really love the look of scrap quilts. and those are beautiful
They're really fun! Good, thrifty use of "stuff"...Now, when asked, say: "I'm a fabric abstract artist." I like.

One of the speakers to visit my quilt guild last winter said to "lighten the load" of our scrappy quilts, we should use cotton batiste for the foundation of the squares. It's so much lighter and works good. It must be cotton and not cotton/poly to play well with the cotton quilting fabric. Sometimes it's hard to find, so when I do see it, I tend to buy several yards.
And your quilts are beautiful!! |
Love scrappy
now i know what to do with my box of 1.5 strips !! Very nice :D
