Hi Everyone, I just thought I'd share a couple of my quilt tops with you....they were a lot of fun....

The first is my sunflower quilt - I used Maywood fabrics from their Full Sun collection - I love that collection.....and I did a kind of sampler quilt - just making blocks that I liked and putting them together in my own little design..it was a riot to do........this quilt top is about 60 x 80..not just have to find a long arm quilter and this this one completed........

The second one is a 1930's repro. pinwheel block that I received in the birthday block exchange on the Garden Forum - been doing that exchange for the last 3-4 years now - and love it - these are my 2009 blocks that I received....I am so pleased with the way that it turned out - I used 3 other blocks to do a table runner top - and still have a couple left over to put in throw pillows...... This quilt top is about 50 x 70...I am not sure if I should add more borders and make it bigger or should I stop there and make it a throw quilt..what do you all think..I would love your ideas....

I thought that a soft yellow wss what these blocks were asking for to be joined together...I do have a wonderful 1930's repro for the backing - something different.....but now I'm thinking of perhaps a different softer back - nothing too colorful..I haven't decided on that yet.....

All of the prints are from the FULL SUN collection from MAYWOOD.....I love this line.....

Sunflowers were fussy cut for each of the focus squares.

This collecton had a large stripe/border print which I cut and turned into my sunflower border.

Note: Pinwheel block pattern is from Quilterscache.

That's gorgeous!! Love the color combinations :D

Lockeb 01-25-2010 04:37 PM

Hi Joyce,
Thanks...I had a blast with these...I have a couple of others - will have to take photos of them another time...these are the last couple that I did....
Now working on a smaller project - a wall hanging or dollquilt...

The blue in the photos of the first quilt top are too bright - the actual color of the blue is a more soft blue......not that bright.....

BKinCO 01-25-2010 04:40 PM

Cool! Nice to know that you actually quilt ;)

I love them both!

Lockeb 01-25-2010 04:41 PM

Heh BK.......
Thanks....Yes, Quiting is actually my favourite pasttime - if I could eat fabric - I would... :-) I got all of this love of sewing and quilting for my dear Grandmother, Irene.....I'm the only one in the family that picked up her love of sewing and creativity....

BKinCO 01-25-2010 04:43 PM

Fabric probably doesn't have as many calories as food. Maybe that would be a good new diet!

I think it looks great. You can send it on down to CO.

charmpacksplus 01-25-2010 04:54 PM

They look super! Fabric has lots of fiber, but zero calories.

Lockeb 01-25-2010 05:02 PM

charmpacksplus and BK....It may be a good thing if I do start with fabric..I've been wanting to diet.... :-)

Jim's Gem 01-25-2010 05:10 PM

You have a pair of beautiful quilts there!! Great job.

Lockeb 01-25-2010 05:14 PM

Thanks Jim's Gem...

I would love for anyone to give me ideas on what you think I should do with the pinwheel top - should I make it larger with more borders..if so, what colors would you use....or would you finish off as is - as a throw quilt....

Backing - would you go white, or a 1930's fun print - or a soft tone-on-tone......

Just wondering what everyone thinks.....

Barb_MO 01-25-2010 05:17 PM

Really like the sunflower top Bill.
The '30's is nice too....I'm just not into 30's repo. Had enough of those growing up.

amma 01-25-2010 05:26 PM

Beautiful quilts. I love them both. Great patterns and a great job on your part.

chewboo 01-25-2010 06:49 PM

those are wonderful

dglvr 01-25-2010 06:58 PM

They are both very beautifal. I like the sunflower one but the pinwheel one is nice too. I was looking at your pinwheel on how flat the centers are. The pinwheel I did seemed to stand to much in the center. To many seems in 1 spot didn't like me.
You did awesome.

Ms Grace 01-25-2010 07:36 PM

They are both beautiful!
Great job. :-)

tuesy 01-25-2010 07:48 PM

Beautiful quilts... but I am drawn to the 30's repro. That one is just gorgeous!! The colors are so vibrant!! Beautiful job!!

burnsk 01-25-2010 10:08 PM

Hey Bill, Glad to see your pictures. Your quilts are outstanding. Love them. Saw some sunflowers today at a quilt shop and thought of you. It was very similar to the border on your quilt. Your work is beautiful. I'm teaching a "tote" class next weekend and I'll be using the FQ's you sent to make mine. Can't wait to use them.

I love them both, but I think one more boarder and I am thinking a light green, pink or purple. And the back should be the 1930"s fun print.

Lockeb 01-26-2010 04:12 AM

Thanks everyone....you are all very encouraging....with regards to the pinwheel blocks, I can't take all of the credit...this were a part of the birthday block exchange on the Garden Forum Quilt site.....these I received in 2009....so I'm now just starting to use them up - I also will have a table runner and some pillows....putting them together has been a blast...

The sunflower quilt is because I love Sunflowers... Kathy you know me... :-)......and I just wanted to have something bright, fun, very SUNFLOWERY....and I think it worked......I didn't even plan it in advance..it was one of those project where I started with a block and only decided on the next block once the first was done....it was also a lot of fun....

I think I need to get sewing and get more done - but first I have to get these quilted........does anyone know a good, affordable long-arm quilter that does mailorder service.........

ranger 01-26-2010 04:26 AM

Hi Bill. Your quilts are great. It must be fun doing the b-day blocks....a lot of the work is done and you have a reminder of many friends from different areas.
I love your sunflower quilt. It is beautiful.

azdesertrat 01-26-2010 04:26 AM

jabs317 01-26-2010 04:41 AM

Very Pretty

Lockeb 01-26-2010 06:01 AM

Thanks everyone...
Ranger, yes the birthday blocks are wonderful..I have by birthday blocks from 2008 that I haven't done yet as well as a flower block swap that we did in 2008 or perhaps 2007 - I can't remember...I should work on those as well......
I'm sure you'll all agree that there's never a dull moment in quilting.....
When I am doing patchwork I feel like a child coloring...my crayons are my fabric.....

Jingle 01-26-2010 08:18 AM

I love your quilt tops, sounds like you need to quilt your own quilts, it just takes some practice. Make a quilt sandwich pin W/ safety pins, remove when you get close, use garden gloves w/rubber nubs and just practice. Make it about 18x24" or 24x24", you will get good in no time.

charismah 01-26-2010 08:20 AM

great quilts! I lvoe the retro 30's ...it is just darling!

Rose Marie 01-26-2010 08:21 AM
