2 Scrappy Quilts Finished

6 Attachment(s)
Hello, I just finished these 2 scrappy over sized lap quilts for a couple elderly ladies in our congregation. As I had so many scraps thought I'd try out these patterns. Seems my scraps multiply during the night though as my container looks like I have more than what I started out with. Anyway, I realized some of the mistakes I made while stitching these up. On the Spiderweb don't use thin strips near either end as there will be lots of seams coming together there. I made 2 more of these scrappy quilts but used only reds/blues/purples/white as these will be mine for a change.

I custom quilted both of these and as I'm still a beginner in quilting, please don't look too close. I now have a larger quilt system so I no longer have to turn my quilts to do the borders which I'm very happy about.

Hope you like them.

You don't look like a beginner to me! Great scrap quilts and quilting! I did a Spiderweb scrap quilt and I agree with not using tiny pieces at the points. I ended up ironing the seams that all meet in the middle open. I won't do that again either! I don't like how I can see the seam stitching after the quilting.

Love the feather quilting on the border! Looks terrific and very inventive!

Prettip, its not a pantograph but a digital design. I combined the corner designs with the top row design. The sides I chunked as I went down the quilt. For the SpiderWeb as I knew I'd have to go thru all those seams in the center, I found a design that would basically go around it instead of thru it. Only problem there was it made the center bunch up. Back to the drawing board on that idea. Also I have robotics as my hands tremor too much to do free motion but there is still a lot you have to do in preparing these designs to fit your quilt.
Thanks for the nice comments.

Quilter 65, what tool are you talking about that you need for the Spiderweb? I didn't use anything for mine. I started out with a foundation piece and just sewed strips to it. I marked the foundation piece where to put the 1st strip on each side though. I got both of these patterns from Craftsy 2012 BOM.

alikigirl 08-03-2013 08:52 AM

they both look great. I would love to have quilting that looked that good - I am still fighting trying to quilt on my DSM. I can't even do stitch in the ditch straight LOL

Susanna10 08-03-2013 10:02 AM

Both look AWESOME. Its amazing how our scrap piles always look the same no matter how many scrappies we make.

Jim's Gem 08-03-2013 10:27 AM

Beautiful quilts! Your quilting is quite lovely! Great job!

Elfi2 08-04-2013 02:55 AM

Those are really lovely quilts. We make those spider web ones too at our group, for charity, I think they're great to use up strips. It's on my to-do list for the very near future for a friend of mine, so thanks for the advice about the larger strips on either end. Also it's nice to see one made with the white criss-cross, we've been making them in black, dark-blue or dark-brown, so to see them in white, gives you more ideas what it looks like :) The second quilt is so lovely too!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
