Boy, aren't you loved! What a great gift. Hope to see some great projects coming from that table. Don't forget to share them with us!

I will def. share! There hasn't been much quilting going on around here with all the summer things (ie. end of school, t-ball practice, hubby working crazy overtime) hoping to get back to it really soon.

I love the plexi glass idea and will look at the walmarts around here and into the sew slip, can't complain about saving some money!

I had a request for more pictures and info on the table.

I am no woodworking expert but I can walk through the steps mike took.

1. center machine on table (he used a square to ensure everything was perfect)

2. double and triple check number 1!!!!

3. cut out hole

4. set insert on blocks and lower machine into hole to fine-tune and check for any additionally needed cuts.

5. decide placement of screws on bottom (we chose directly on the right and left machine opening about 2in. wide by 10 in. long piece of wood)

6. mark and drillholes for bolts to go through #5 (he recessed the top so that the top of the bolt would be flush with the top of the drilled piece)

7. insert bolt and use hammer to ensure top is flush.

8. double check place ment, mark placement on bottom of insert and mark holes for screws on the side thelong part of the bolt is coming out of.

9. Drill screwholes

10. put wood glue on top of wood (part that we used the hammer on) put in place and screw into place

11. give about 15 min. for glue to start setting up (would be over-night if screws are not used)
*note- after letting sit and double checking place ment we had to cut an extra notch out of the wooden piece to accomodate machine plug in and pedal plug in

12. put solid board (we used oak) up against bottom of screws and mark all four screw holes.

13. drill out holes (you may have to fine tune it a couple times to ensure the board will go far enough up the bolts) ... I bought 3/8 in. wide bolts that were 7in. long.... mistake, they only needed to be about 2-3 in long at the most, the guys ended up cutting about 3/4 of them off lol

14. screw nut up to top of all 4 bolts then add wood board (that is not a typo, we will add a second bolt under the board to)

15. add second nut under board on all 4 bolts.

16. fine tune placement of board with machine (helps to have 2 sets of hands here) and screw bolts on bottom to exact fit.

17. screw bolt on top of board down and tighten both bolts at the same time to help stabalize and prevent any shifting of board while sewing.

18. put insert back into table, put machine in hole, plug in, enjoy!!

I was planning on doing that exact same thing with my sewing desk! I wasn't able to do it, because I don't have a drop-in bobbin like yours, so I'd have to remove the machine every time I needed to get into the bobbin area.

Yours turned out so well!

Wonderful. You need that large surface to FMQ. You will have better control of the quilt. How wonderful he helped you out. And it looks so great.
