Dsb38327 and I enjoyed making our Swish quilts so much last year we decided to make another. Gigix12 is going to join us. We would love for others to join in too. We are planning to post photos as we go. We are using Danmar's Swish pattern.

Thank you, Danmar for sharing your pattern with us.
I am attaching the fabric choice pictures for the 3 of us. Now we are ready to start cutting strips.
Thank you

Marvellove, I love your and Gigix12 fabric selections. It looks simple when the final photo of the fabric selections are posted. It took a lot of decision making for us to get there.

Gigix12, your fabrics are beautiful. Looking forward to getting to know you and having fun making our quilts. Dsb38327 was a lot of help to me, too.

Oh my gosh--I'm so excited to watch this progress!! Thanks for thinking of us!! Yay!!

When you look at a bargello quilt, you think of how difficult it looks to make one. Little does anyone know (until they make one of their own) the difficulty lies in making the freakin decision about which fabrics to use! LOL I agonized over my fabrics and then swapped, reswapped and ended up putting them back to where they started from (at least 3 times) :) Have fun ladies!!!

feffertim 01-29-2011 05:46 PM

Oh No, not another project I want to do. I will be watching

marvellove 01-29-2011 05:50 PM

Your so right Lori. I would think I had it all arranged, then go shopping and think some of that fabric would be better. Go home and start all over.

I agree!! I recently finished my first--and fabric selection was an amazingly long process. I have to say though, with the next one I have planned, it went much faster. I switched it twice... and love it. WHEW!!! Of course...I need to look it all over one more time before I cut strips...

I seriously considered jumping in and joining you all.....for about 1minute.......but I have Dunster's diamond log cabin pattern which arrived today that I need to play with first :) I definately want to try her swish pattern someday soon though.

That is so true...I'm still agonizing if I made the right decision and won't know until I start putting it together.Making a bargello was on my bucket list and now I'm doing it!!!!YAY!!!!

Good job in picking out the fabrics. I know DSB deligigently worked on hers until she got it just right. I was going to join in but have to catch up here first. I', gonna be watching myself.

I'm in the weeds! I must get the donation lap quilts made before I can cut strips for my Bargello. The lap quilts are coming right along. I hoped to make the tops, sandwich and quilt them this week. Not going to happen. Looks like it will take the rest of this week to make the tops so I am into next week sandwiching and quilting. My stuff can wait, I will get to it. :)

I have selected my 24 fabrics, cut my 2 1/2" strips and sewn my panels from the 2 1/2" strips. I am cutting my column strips as I go. I have assembled and sewn my first 8 (of 54)column strips together. Bargellos are so addictive. Since I now know the pattern, I am making an effort to put my attention on the finer details. Notice how my seams are exactly in the center of the selvage edge of the new strip. Can you see it? I am pressing each seam, taking no short cuts and using enough starch to turn the fabric into cardboard.
I spent at least 6 weeks choosing the fabrics. If I lived in Candyland I would have switched a couple out but I really like my new quilt.
It will take me a second to add the photos.
Please tell me what you think and which fabrics you would have changed with what. If you aren't familiar with the pattern you can see mine and Marvellove's first ones on these links.

No, it is not a snake. This is my 1st four columns. They are each 1" wide before seaming.

Hoping this will give you a flavor of the fabric's personalities.

8 columns so far. One of the wedges it is creating.

Fabric #18-#24 panels.

I am assembling the columns left to right. This is the top of my full strips. It looks like I have made some mistakes but they are all correct.

The light fabrics are my numbers 1, 2, & 3. I hope they create a glass effect like Olga's did. Do you think they will? http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-86678-1.htm

This is Gigix12 checking in. I finished the top of the Bargello from Hell. If it weren't for DSB i would not have finished it but tossed it in the rabbit hole. Now when I figure out how to post the picture of the top I will add it.
Making a bargello was on my bucket list, and now I've done it, I don't ever have to do another.!!!!

Egad, it's almost done!!!

Do you all have any recommendations on fabrics? I really want to do one of these. Can you remind me...how many different fabrics (I did purchase the pattern, but want to start thinking about this...don't have any bargello books, etc.) And about how much fabric of each do you need (1/4 yard, 1/2 yard)?

These are really neat. Even my DH was impressed when he saw this one...He said, "it looks like it's not lying flat". But of course, it was.

Anyway, do you have any hints on choosing colors?
