5 year UFO Bargello

I had over-quilted this Bargello (I had never quilted a 1" finished strip before) so the not quilted border was very wavy so I wasn't sure how to quilt the border. A few weeks ago, I decided to crosshatch the border. So here is is, another UFO finished. YIPPEE :)

Very pretty!!! Love the colors and it looks like the cross hatching tamed the border. Looks like it lies perfectly.

briskgo 08-25-2015 06:53 AM

Can you tell me how over quilting causes wavey boarders? Thanks

sash 08-25-2015 07:02 AM

Beautiful bargello and love the colors and quilting.

DresiArnaz 08-25-2015 07:36 AM

That's very pretty!

It looks hard.

What do you guys do when you make those?

Do you sew a bunch of strips together, cut them and assemble, staggering each strip?

RedGarnet222 08-25-2015 07:40 AM

Beautiful colors. Exotic and wonderful design.

That is gorgeous. Isn't it amazing what treasures some of us have tucked away in our closets unfinished!!! I've got quite a few that I'm hoping to finish up this year.

I had to laugh at myself (not to myself) when I read your 5 yr unfinished Bargello. When I start a Bargello I become obsessed with working it from early morn. til bedtime. It's such a challenge it's all I can think about.
I now have the pattern for Long and Winding Road you guided me to & I actually started putting strips together in my sleep last night. I don't even have my fabrics yet. Now that is crazy, huh

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful. It may have taken you a while to finish but as the saying goes "good things are worth waiting for".

Hi Dresi. The first item is to select your fabric. The strips are normally cut from 1.5" to 2.5". After sewing them into sets, then you start cutting the various widths. Some people have charts to refer to with what fabric is assigned a number. Then you sew them into a loop. By referring to your chart, you then know where you need to undo a seam. Lining the strips up on a design wall is very helpful. Here is a Bargello bed runner by the same designer.
