90 Minute Quilt --I am a believer!

2 Attachment(s)
I looked at the you-tube video that was posted under "resources & links" telling how to do "90 minute"
quilts. I couldn't quite believe that was possible, but at 8:00 I decided to try. I used fleece on mine and was indeed done in under 2 hours. I was amazed! I will be using this technique more often on charity quilts, etc. I realized after I had cut out my blocks, that I had cut up a couple of pillow cases I had not sewn together. This "older" brain does not always compute things as rapidly as it once did. Here's the pictures.

Love it and the pattern.

Sierra 12-18-2011 06:12 AM

Did you fold or roll the edges? It is a very handsome quilt.

We must be sharing the same brain! That's the kind of stuff I do! Love the 90 minute quilt! Thanks for sharing.

I'm curious about the backing/edging/binding. I can't find the 90 minute quilt tutorial on this board. Can you share a link?
Thanks!

Very nice job!

dunster 12-18-2011 08:42 AM

Very nice! At least the pillow cases were repurposed. Does the 90 minutes include the quilting?

I just turn the backing to the front and stitch with a decorative stitch--I do not turn the edge under. The fleece doesn't ravel so doesn't really need to be turned.

Thanks!

Another reader shared it below (probably "above" since I read it before writing this post.)

Looks very nice I am surprised a quilt can be done in 90 mins also but it looks nice. Sue

I see I didn't fully answer your question. I use fleece for my backing, but the tutorial uses batting and a backing--either works well. With fleece and then turning it to the front as the facing, it is pretty quick and easy. I use a decorative stitch on the edge of the binding--with fleece you do not need to turn it under.

Yes--the tutorial just used a straight stitch running diagonally thru the blocks. The tutorial shows how to do it with continuous stitching. With fleece, I felt like having the columns sewn down was plenty without additional quilting.

Very cool - thanks for sharing! I hope this "older" brain remembers this when I get back to making charity quilts. :)

Sewfine 12-19-2011 06:25 AM

That is neat, I think I try it also.

KathyKat 12-19-2011 06:30 AM

Nice job! I'm sure someone will be warm and cozy under that quilt. What a great idea for a quick and simple kids quilt too!

Try this and see if it works. It is a tutorial on 90 minute quilts.

dannel 12-19-2011 07:37 AM

There's another one on you-tube that's fast called the jellyroll 1600. After cutting the strips and sewing them together it took 35 minutes for one lady to finish.

MargeD 12-19-2011 08:16 AM

Love your 90 minute quilt. Occasionally, I need an instant gratification quilt, especially after making several challenging quilts, this could be that quilt. Love yours

Mariposa 12-19-2011 08:18 AM

Nicely done!! :)

wendiq 12-19-2011 09:06 AM

Thank you so much for the video on how to do this. I make a lot of charity quilts and will definitely use this method....especially the binding. I can't wait to try it out.......:)

tslowery 12-19-2011 09:08 AM

That looks nice...I will have to try this...thanks for sharing.

Did you wash the fleece first. I don't know if fleece shrinks. Thank you for showing this I will try making one.

No, I do not prewash fleece--there is really nothing in the fiber content to shrink.
