I'm doing a grand-mother garden by hand using english paper piecing. I saw in Quiltmaker this month that you are supposed to remove the basting thread once the hexagones have been joined. Is it bad to leave it in? I also take 3 stiches in the seam allowance at the beginning and the end of a seam. Am I going to jail !?!

No jail because no quilt police here! Just be sure to remove the basting before quilting. :-)

no jail time for you!!

I leave the paper in until the hex's have been sewn together because I re use the same freezer paper over and over until it won't stick :)

Oh :-( I wanted to leave the basting for life !! What makes it wrong? I'm planning to quilt by hand a quarter of a inch inside and around the hexagones so the basting thread will not be in my way. What do you think? Is it better to take it out?

I do the same. As soon as the hexagone is surrounded I take it out. It is the basting thread that I'm not sure. Do you leave yours in?

I would leave the basting in place if it didn't show on the front. Do things the way you and you will be happy.
